Got the custom printed fabric. The print ended up a little larger than I wanted and more wine colored. I'm on the fence about redoing it or just ordering as is. My corset silk is a wine colored dupioni so idk at this point. I'm starting on the leather portions of the jacket and on the corset this weekend.

Does... Does that maroon fabric have a Star Fleet insignia print? lol

I'm working on the corset (it's just pinned right now) and second guessing my choice of silk dupioni. I don't like matte satin which is why I went with this, but I think the difference might be too much and not subtle like I had hoped.

Working on the base layers while I wait for my red grommets for the outer layer (I did change fabrics and I'm happier now!) The base pattern that I showed on the first page didn't have cups but I want cups on the base layer, so I cut them in. Eventually I'll bias bind off the raw edges. Probably after Dragon*Con.

I have that fabric! <3 I haven't decided yet what I want to make out of it. Probably a skirt but I will have to see if I have enough.

I changed to a satin that is sort of matte, but also has a sheen. Wanda's corset has a sliiight sheen. I also got my new fabric samples back from the printer and one of them is passable, but neither are perfect, so I'm going to just rig something up and possibly revisit it later.

I can't decide between antique silver and red for the grommets, so I special ordered both of those. I'm using a "00" size in the antique silver and a 5/32" in the red eyelet. The outer eyelets actually look slightly smaller than the inner, but I'm not sure I'll go that far.

And since neither of the printed fabrics worked to my satisfaction and I haven't found a screenprinter able to design and print the fabric in yards, this is my last ditch effort for the patterned portion of the jacket:

This weekend is Wanda weekend for sewing.

All right, big update. Skirt part is done. I'm working on the belt right now, though I might have to recut.

I'm using bonded leather. I draw the pattern pieces directly onto the fabric back so I don't have to pin anything. When I'm piecing, I use wonderclips instead of pins to keep from putting holes into the fabric. As mentioned before, my printed swatches never turned out satisfactory, so I used a wide tulle net and pattern stick to make my own patterned fabric.

Sleeves, lining and finishing tomorrow (I hope!). I plan to put hooks in the front on the "belt" of the jacket that will attach to eyes that I'll sink onto the corset to keep the jacket from flapping around in wind.

Thanks! I just hope it turns fully out the way I want.

I hate sleeves. You can kind of see the "ribbed" suede portion at the bottom. I hate ribbing things properly, so I bought a batting backed (faux) suede and sewed lines in it. The fluff gives it a little fullness so it isn't just flat with lines sewn on.

My upper arm insert ended up being a little wonky because I lined up the seams like the movie jacket but my seams weren't as symmetrical as that one. Oops. And I'm working on the wrist taper because it is sharp.

Wow! Looks awesome so far! I love Wanda's costume, but my level of expertise does not go to big leather coats:p Can't wait to see how you put everything together!

Honestly, I didn't think my level of expertise extended to this, either. It's really just a matter of having a good base pattern, going slowly and testing everything on scrap material.

Incredible build!!

How did you end up doing the patterned pieces of leather? I'm actually working on a build of my own and I'm curious to know what you did! :)
