Deadpool movie costume

As usual: “sorry for my English its not my native language”
Few YEARS passed since my first post, unfortunatelly in past I did not have enough time to post my works, but nowdays i hope i`ll do it more recently and will post my old works too.

This time it will be my last work, finished about 2 weeks ago - craft parts for Deadpool costume.
I`ve started it few months ago (there was no hurry because deadline was first run of the movie in cinema) thats why some moments are not accurate, there was not enough info in that time.
But, anyway, costume is ready and here how it was made:

Knife holster:
kn.jpg
I used simple training knife, in that tome there was no clear info what kind of knife they used, so this one was qute good.
First i made main PVC form, then formed "cover" over it, trimm all excess and painted with flat black with rubber paint finish.
Now i know that original holster almost not have "pointy" end, but in that time bottom parts of holster was not shown at photos.

Gun holsters:
gun.jpg
Same as knife holsters, but for base was used gun itself. Form, trimm, rubber-paint finish. I deside to make rubber finish on bough (knife and gun) holsters, and it was mistake because now we know that gun holsters have "carbon" finish. You can make it of kydex with carbon finish, but in my case its very hard to find it in my country, so PVC is cheaper alternative and if you prefer you can cover it with car film with "carbon" effect.

Also important moment: first i made holster mounts for regular 5 cm belt, but in new poster we can clearly see that mounts has different shape and didnt even fits the sling, just fixed over it somehow. I think it was made to avoid "thrusting out" fabric in mount part (othere wise they nee second belt on top of fabric part). So i decide to make new mounts as shown on picture and fix them permanently.

Guns:
guns.jpg
In our country we still can take airsoft guns to con`s without orange plugs and any labels, thats why i prefer to modify even bought toy guns to make them act and look more like real ones... (1st photo on the right inner part modified) I took away all "firing" parts, replace barrel with wider one and add extra weight to the barrel (then "gun" is balanced more like real one for me it feels more comfortable and realystic in motion). Also cheap toys have plenty of screws on one side, so i moved them to another place and fill holes (on second photo you can see bigger barrel and covered holes) . After painting i also add some dirt and scratches (3rd picture show difference between silver paint and finished look)

Buckle:
buckle.jpg
The hardest part was make accurate dome shape for two main parts, everything else is simple, cut, sand, prime, cold cast, paint and gluing parts together.
First i thought (as many who start to make buckles reffering to first photos) that silver parts in center has round shape, but in new photos we can see that is is more complicated and rised over black part.

Katanas:
katana.jpg
I took two souvenir katanas, throw away not needed parts (on 1st photo only 3 bottom parts needed) , engrave the handle, made new guard using 5mm aluminum sheet and finish with rubber paint.
During disassemble i broke blade (on 1st photo steel rod on the right from guard is piece that was in handle) because it was permanently glued in handle (my previous katana was just screwed together) but anyway you need make it shorter (because movie version is shorter than "real" one), so you just need to trim part of blade and make new hole for it in handle.

Katanas holster:
kh.jpg
It was made of PVC, you can disassemble it in 4 parts for transportation as shown on 2nd picture. On the third photo you can see how it mounts using 2 screws. After mounting on the back you hide them with cover with magnets to fit it in place (on 3rd photo magnets not attached yet).
8.jpg9.jpg
The hardest part was figure out how it mounts to costume i`ve started with photo where we can see costume without katanas and there is 2 botls on the back, then i found low quality picture where part of holster was missing, that time i thought it was "broken"... but then someone post picture where we can see holster without top part and two knobs right in the place where bolts on costume are... so i`m pretty sure that they used same system with 2 bolts and cover on magnets.

Finaly, photo of all components, another one with happy customer in cosume and also video with dressing up all costume...
(unfortunatelly i dont have photos of making costume but if anyone will be interested in it i`ll try to ask them and will post them here)

Wow, it looks amazing!! I'm interested in seeing how you made it. :rolleyes But can you tell me what fabric you used?

Thanks for question, unfortunatelly i`ve got info only about craft part (i`m not working with fabric) but as i wrote i`ll ask for photos of process (if any) and description (it may take some time because girls that made costume do not have anough time at the moment) and post it here asap.
Only thing that i know is that there was used 2 red fabrics with different textures and faux leather.

Thanks for comments and interest!
Finally i`ve got some info from TornHem Studio about fabric part of costume, heres what they sent to me (actually we work together, but i`m making only craft parts so i used to ask about fabric part because do not know anything about it at all :)

"First we want to say that costume was finished before first run of the movie in cinema and reserch was based on low res pictures. Thats why some moments was ispired by logics, sometimes we were right, sometimes - not :(
For example who can guess that in fact costume is "black with red" instead of being "red with black"? Actually it a big difference, because on hi-res pictures we figure out that there is piping between red and balck parts and red parts sewed over black ones... It was very sad to know when costume was already finished...

But lets say about process...

All textile parts was made of neopren in two layers (to add more volume) and faux leather. For "protectors" on chest, knees and elbows we`re insert some foam between layers of fabric. For bottom layer was used flat neoprene, and for top layer one with texture.
Costume has only one functional zipper on the back (fly piece is fake as it was in original costume... but in second version of costume we decide to make 2 zippers for customers comfort :)

There was some complexity with sholder pads becase originally its reglan sleeve (as it is in many others "superhero" costumes). We cant clearly see the exact fit of sholder pads so we used trimmed reglan pads covered with faux leather. Their form looks quite good and add extra volume for owner`s sholders.
Red fastex-look-like mounts on back also were made with foam insert between fabric layers.

For base of mask was used regular plastic mask, trimmed and formed by heating and covered by faux leather. And for fabric part was used thin textured neopren.
All costume was painted with wet brush, dry brush and sponge using acrylic paint.
After few hours of drying costume was ready...
Now we have more clear info about few moments and hope that for next customer we can make more accurate version."

And few photos "in progress":

Mask on the pic seems to be bigger because unfortunatelly our "dummy" head is smaller than real human head (but anyway it was very funny to run around the studio with deadpool`s head :)
09.jpg11.jpg
And i`m thinner than our customer, so on photos during test "assemble" costume fits not so well on me...

Will try to post new photos (if any) in costume from our customer, unfortunatelly he is from another city but hope he will make few photos for us :)
