A little something I whipped up. My own design, scratch built using old school techniques.

I concur - very nice job, Echo Leader. I'd say this is fine studio scale modeling since you've used (as noted) typical ILM-style techniques (ironic using a piece from a Star Wars model kit...ha!) Can we start ID'ing the parts now? ;^)

I especially like the crew, a rather lifelike composition of figures (1/35 scale? Miniarts...?) See, hard to not try and determine 'how you did it'.
May we have a few more views (such as the engines)?

Regards, Robert

Thanks. I do enjoy using old school modeling techniques. Yes, CGI has a place today in the creation of many of these subjects and I may learn to use those tools sometime in the future but I prefer old school. I prefer the tactile touch in my creation, using hand tools, measuring, cutting, sanding. Creating my subject from raw materials combined with kit bashed model parts. I don't use drawings or blueprints when the subject is of my own creation. I usually envision in my mind what I'd like to create and just go from there. I enjoy and admire the works of famed master modeler Martin Bower and have seen interviews where he states of working his subjects the same way. I also incorporate many items that you may use in your household and even discard as trash without a second thought. You will see some of these in my builds. Anyway, I'll be posting progress pictures on here of how I created Miranda.

More progress pics. Some items I used for structure are blister packs that we throw away once we retrieve the items we purchase. I recycle these onto my models. I used such from a pack of AA batteries I purchased. You can see it on the underside of Miranda. I used various other blister packs from ink jet cartridges and even from underwear packaging. What I look for are shapes. Another item I used was an old, broken Dustbuster vacuum I had laying around the shop. I used this for the cockpit.

Here are the details I added to the fuel tank bay. It's hard to see the details once the tanks are installed but it's good to know that they're there.

Sweet! I generally don't do FB, so I missed out. I was wondering if the shapes on the 'sponsons' came from blister packaging because of the shape.

Thanks for sharing your WIP pix, they're great.

The radar dish was made from a lid off a disposable deli container. I reshaped it and added all the details from Plastruct pieces and kit bashed parts.

From design to execution, I really like this piece. The detail you added all looks like it would serve a practical "real world" purpose rather than just being slapped on for no reason. It's funky and utilitarian and lived in, and looks like a studio model ready for filming. Really strong work! (y)thumbsup
