Netflix Daredevil Build (with TestEagle Cosplay) with pics

Just thought i be sharing this, but that's what the RPF is for. I aint a paragraph kinda person, coz i speak in statements and point form, but not in real life. This is not an exact replica but its how i see it. I identify the key traits of the character costume and make sure it is there on my redesigned version. This is a project both TestEagle Cosplay and i put together. I'm on design, and he does the magic. This was a 4-5 month communicated project of bouncing ideas.

After identifying the key traits of the costume, i thought the following:
  • I dont like sweating
  • i need to breath and be flexible
  • a full one piece suit can be a death sentence (human steam cooker marinated in sweat)

DD_Proto0.jpgDD_Proto1.jpg

My end decision:
  • Elbow long sleeves
  • Vest that can be padded
  • Pants just slightly pass the knee
  • if my limbs are aired, the skin can breath, i sweat less

Then i came up with this design:
11722661_10206666012546638_3245464271587945338_o.jpg

then i thought, it's armor. I needed some raised areas. Then came up with this. Note the blue zones as these pieces are raised.
11724731_10206666260672841_201175536_o.jpg

I had a theory that the suit was actually a single 2 piece, with top and pants. But when i saw Captain America from Age of Ultron .. to me, Cap looked like he was wearing an undersuit and armor pieces get attached over. Kinda. But that was how i saw it. What if the undersuit, i designed could be used to buff out key muscles like the biceps (and i aint built, i'm just a regular asian sized male).

From this angle of Daredevil, it does kind of look like an armored vest with an inner layer.

DD08.jpg

So after all that, i decided with the following:
  • armored vest with side zips and zip near the neck
  • inner layer that buffs out the bicep muscles
  • pants
  • helmet/cowl (from the RPF, TheRocketeer)
  • holster (leather and heavy industrial elastics)
  • gauntlets (foam and rubber sheets with elastic straps)
  • Riding thigh boots or ankle boots
  • Riding chaps
  • Stormtrooper undersuit
  • Balaclava
  • Elbow/Knee Pads
  • Gloves that go to the wrist
  • Sticks (from the RPF too)
  • Buckles (RPF NovaProps)

DD_Buckles01.jpgDD_Buckles02.jpg
** Buckles from Nova Props - These will be glued onto actual buckles.

After that, had to build the gauntlets. Made with foam, PVC sheets and rubber sheets. I wanted something i could wear over long gloves.

Then 3-4 months later with the magic of TestEagle ..

.. and i am reaching my post picture limit. So this is a video i made to show how the suit looks like on me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJKWhLguEK4

Update on this build.

The pants is still in need of adjustments in the right areas. But i have also been working on the holsters recently, coz my leather scraps finally arrived. Will be updating the first post when i have finished building the holsters.

Materials are leather cuts and heavy industrial webbing.
Daredevil Sticks 01.jpg

Like painting, i love the use of masking tape to mark down the straight lines already chalked on. Marked the areas to cut with green highlights.
Daredevil Sticks 02.jpgDaredevil Sticks 03.jpg

Dremel cut and blade cut with some filing.
Daredevil Sticks 04.jpg

This is pretty much what it looks like folded up with webbings inserted. The webbing is to give that snug fit like the Superior Spiderman webshooter straps in my last build.
Daredevil Sticks 05.jpgDaredevil Sticks 06.jpg

The webbing in between it to prevent the sticks from hitting each other. Minimal noise for movement. Last thing u need is CLING CLANG CLING CLANG ninja.

Finished the holster setting. Made from leather and heavy industrial elastics. Stress testing the holster without the flap/cover to make sure it never falls out unless needed. Or get yanked out by kids.

Note: Link was posted before it finished processing. So if it doesnt work, it means you clicked too soon!

DSC00008.jpgDSC00006.jpgDSC00005.jpg

Made a belt cover with exactly measurements. Had to pull the leather thru till i got blisters. No pain no gain!

DSC00023.JPG

For the moment with the 3D printed buckles taped on .. this is the look i am going for .. for now.

DSC00031.JPGDSC00030.JPG

Also added a leather cover to the stick holster. Kept closed with magnets.

DSC00076.JPG

Finally had some time to finish up the holster. Glued on the 3D printed bits onto buckles. Now my holster is ready to go. It goes onto another belt thats connected to my pants.

DSC00070.JPGDSC00068.JPG

If i wanted to clip to my vest belt, i just have to increase the length of the snaps on the holster and attach it to the vest belt.

Updated after a while. Had to get them monthly moneys before proceeding!

Bought myself some laser protection visors from AliExpress, Will be cutting eye shaped pieces and Loctite-ing them behind the mask.
Lens01.jpg

Testing out weathering and how much effort i had to do onto the original material. Using wax shoe polish.
DSC00090.JPG

Weathered a whole test fabric to get the darkness i want.
DSC00096.JPG

Then there's the waterproof marker pen-ing of the Rocketeer Cowl (Rubber/Rubber)
DSC00081.JPG

- - - Updated - - -

Started weathering the leather armored cloth pieces to the same dirty look as the cowl. Also used masking tape to randomly peel the leather to give it that worn out look.

DSC00106.JPG
Darkened the colors but i will be leaving this out to fade and brush dusting more grease/black dust on it.

It's been a month since i last posted, been busy with the other project but with new parts arriving in the mail, i managed to get back to working on DD.

Note that this is my take on the Netflix DD armor. The limbs will be covered with arm/leg sports spandex sleeves. The reason for this was, i didnt want to work up a body full of sweat. The sleeves will be arriving in a couple of weeks, togther with the combat gloves i will be using.

Generic leg armor has arrived from AliExpress.
DSC00218.jpg

Worked on Rocketeer's cowl and added stretch PVC to the sides of the faceplate. It's mostly for comfort. but it can stretch for people with bigger heads, and instead of showing skin, it shows the black PVC stretch material.
DSC00224a.jpg

.. and finally happy with how the cowl is set up, LOCTITE-ing it shut for good. But only applying it to the forehead areas.

DSC00226.jpg

Tanned black leather for the gauntlets. Carved in the lines.

Spandex limb pieces for arms and legs. So the suit is skin breathable. I hate the heat and the heatstrokes that come with.

Test try out on the leather gauntlets.

Why was the suit designed to elbow/knee length? For these sports spandex. $4 each on AliExpress. It's not the cheap lycra that loses its stretch.

Now i just need to add elastic straps and i am done.
