Capt. Phasma Armor "Upgrades" Finished p2

We've started work on Capt.Phasma parts as a compliment for my FOTK armor. Still very crude beginnings and as usual, all old school techniques.

Resculpting the helmet. We're basing everything only on the hires Phasma armor pics from D23 with some on hand 3d reference using the action figure.

Modifying 2 sets of leg armor to fit together.

Based these off the pics as well..but apparently they are identical to threepio's fingers...

More updates as i go along.

More refinements on the Phasma bucket. Still need to reduce the width of the chin/cheek strip but slowly getting there.

How do you plan to do the chrome? Is it going to be one of the automotive type systems or vacuum metalizing?

No idea yet on the chrome. But my friends who've built threepio mentioned vacuum metalizing. I am interested in the auto chrome film though.

Some updates:

More work on the Phasma hemet:

Shin: I haven't decided if this will be separate pieces (FOTK shin plus Phasma upgrade) or a whole new shin...

Also, not sure what to do about the foot armor...particularly the toe and heel armor. While i could make them very easily, i will have to base them on one size...because in the pics the plates look snug to the boots, the plates i make might look wrong/ awkward for other sizes? Any thoughts / ideas?

I would say offer the shins as a whole new shin, I'll be easier to cast being one peice, and the wearer won't have to worry about it slipping or falling.

that way for phasma upgrades to your tfa stormtrooper set you could easily just be the addition of the fingers and habd plate and a different set of shins, and the helmet. as as one big bundle

the spats? honestly I was planning on making them out of sinatra, make a cardboard template and cut and heat for to my boot for a snug fit.

Some updates:
1) Helmet rough sculpt is almost done.

2) Shin extensions, spats, heel armor and cod piece have been sculpted and are ready for molding. I've decided to mold the Phasma shin extensions separately from the leg so that length can be adjusted to wearer. I've also decided to skip the toe armor as that is supposed to sit flush to the wearer's boots.

3) finger armor and hand plate extension are still in the rough finishing stages.

I think the stepped ridges on the top of the head look neat, but aren't accurate. I also think the center ridge is too wide, which pushes them all out, from this shot you can see the smoothness of the top of the head, and that the furthest cut ends about a half inch from the edge of the lens (from the front), where as you'res ends at the edge.

Update time. The fingers are proving to be...very tedious. I opted for the separate finger joints as opposed to the one piece because i would like to be able to flex my fingers. Helmet has been cast. Legs are mocked up. I've kept the shins separate from the leg extensions so one can adjust accordingly. I'm also working on a more accurate cod piece. I'll be working on my own Phasma build from here on out.

So i'm going the Gloss black - polyurethane clear - chrome paint route as that's all i'm willing to spend on this costume.

But it's turning quite OK, considering Phasma is all wearthered anyway. Let's just see how it'll hold up during trooping/handling/packing. I may have to have a can of chrome handy for retouches every time tho.
