Vader's MPP shroud (update)

here's a shroud i found in the junkyard that seemed to match the casino/Hero in texture. it was super heavy though. It had a big crack I repaired with JB weld

heiland4.jpgheiland2.jpgDSCN3066.JPG it looks like I eventually wrinkle painted it too. wish I hadn't!

you still have it?! ever throw a magnet on the emitter?

Yes, I'm curious as well!

To me it all makes sense that in production they probably made a few changes over the years in the product. The addition of the extra step in the shroud for instance is most probably done to get an internal step which prevents the shroud from sliding too far over the top. Maybe the steel version was made before the aluminium version, but proved too heavy and was therefore replaced. Or perhaps there were other issues with it, like the cracking. Or the supplier was changed. It's all equally likely.

Aren't there any MPP related forum where one could ask obscure questions like is the shroud magnetic? :p and get information on a larger number of shrouds.

I think more and more the steel shroud from movie is machined for the movie, maybe for some good reasons, too weak or so.
Maybe they et issues with the ep 4 saber shroud and replaced it.
Maybe the version 2 ep 4 saber is the same as ep 5 and 6, but with modifications (damaged lever, wires and bolts added, shroud replaced)
Maybe the bolt on top is also different because it's longer, for a better maintain, and it also would explain why the paint is different.
We can see the piece has quite a rough finish under the paint, and the straightnedd makes me think about something machined and not cast.
It would be possible to compare with other lightsabers (vader ROTJ?) and see if the texture of steel and painting are similar, the part itself is not really difficult to machine from steel.

It's also possible to check every flashgun fro every brand from same period, and try to find some steel parts, and I think none will have steel shroud.

here is the anh saber version 2, who wound have a better pic, so we can compare the flashgun and grips to the esb version?

so these shrouds will be made available soon I hope? as well as the clamps... Im sure the demand will increase once the MPP 2.0 is released.

As previously mentioned by others I can concur that any MPP shrouds or Heiland shrouds that I have seen over the years seem to be specifically made to go with the flash dish
hence the added step on some or cut offs on others.
Back then uneven casting was good enough for their purpose but in my opinion it should be evened out and made symmetrical for the sake of looking correct however...
...since Vaders original Face mask wasn't symmetrical perhaps Roy can do both;) but that will be a tough call to decide which improperly cast shroud to go with:lol

You will do what you feel is right of course:cool

Hi!

I finally have an update on the steel cast shrouds.

Here are a few pictures of the raw casting. The skin looks great! And you can see some rust stains. Strange enough: that's what we want to see!

I hope you enjoy it.

Information on how to buy one and for what price will follow soon. There is no order list or sales thread (yet).
