Truly a work of art , an labor of love , to be sure !!! I believe the version I got years ago , was a Vario 50 version....really big, but some overhaul and serious modifications would have to be done....cause its all wrong , LOL..its been in the closet for the last 10 years....mad when I got it....so much work need to be done....

I love what you are doing with this ....WOW

Yes, I know what you mean. I used to have a Vario too and it just didn't look quite right. Same for the Funky. To be honest, this heli version is pretty close but still not quite right but the best that can be done with it is to reshape a little the underbelly and intakes. Still not perfectly close but close enough. No other version on the market is good enough and its a real shame as the small 1/48 scale model kits seem right on the money. Just a shame no one else can seem to create a version to match the original in the larger scale size!!!

Right a little more progress then a short break. Some more rivet detailing on the belly and some hand mixed grey to show some nice rivet detailing. If you look closely you will see some nice shading appearing in the paintwork. Don't forget, this is not going to be a shiny variant like all the others but beaten up and weathered and covered in sand as it was in the Movie version when flying after Moffett and during the chase in the Libyan desert. So will be a little different from everything else but if this turns out well, then perhaps in the future I will get a shiny new variant to match it but funds being limited, it will be a few years before that is possible and also being around 6ft long with rotor blades, well, will take up a lot of room.

Yes exactly, I too have this metal version and it looks great. Why oh why cant they recreate this into a larger scale model. For me this size is just not suitable for a good display piece. the manufacturers don't realise I think how many Airwolf fans there are out there and would love to have a decent display size model. Not my 6ft size admittedly as this is perhaps over the top and room to display is a big problem. But surely a good scale size is not being unreasonable!!!!!

Airwolf , will be made accurately....and reasonably in size......especially with the technology today...it will happen ,someone will get the inspiration one day

I hope so, there would be such a market for the product of that I am sure!!!! Us fans keep pushing perhaps it will happen sooner than later.

ok guys, some more rivet detail effects on the belly and also main body, match top and bottom body fuselage sections for paint mix, attach tail fin and wire up for lights, attach and weather rotor head. Note, she is clean and quite shiny at this point like so many others before her. This will be different as said before with lots of weathering and sand effect as she was in the end of the pilot movie. Weathered and battered during battle. Enjoy

Ok back to the build. Since the last post, guns have been completed and vents cut into the aluminium to simulate the cooling grills. Weathered and painted and fitted to the fuselage. Now she looks like she is ready for some combat! More like it. Tail rotor assembly fitted and weathered. More to come soon. Enjoy

This is just stunning. I have the Larry jolly kit and want to create a lighted and detailed interior with figures. But this outside detailing is magnificent. I am inspired.

Ok time to work on the cockpit a little. Test fit windshield, scratch build the back wall so you don't see inside to the wiring or mechanics. Would love to have fitted Doms workstation in the rear but just no room and too much work to do so a little bit of artistic licence needed to make it look technical and also give some relief to the plain inside. Some cockpit roof headlining also and best of all, the side windows with the scratch built window vents. I hate so much the awful sticker effect. Now I have a proper 3D looking window and boy does it really add to the overall look!!!!!! Enjoy.

If you get a small 4 channel RC helicopter and practice until you feel OK with moving up to a 6 channel RC chopper (Blade MCPx or something) in a few months to maybe a year or so you COULD safely fly your studio scale model. Helifreaks website has several scale models of Airwolf, Blue thunder etc.

Thanks for the idea but this baby will be for static display only. Way too much work and money scratch building etc and it only takes one accident. She will be on proud display once done. I will stick to flying flight sims :) Good idea though thanks.
