Alternative to Smooth-On 68d

I am looking into trying to make a replica Iron Man suit I saw this method http://xrobots.co.uk/coating/ and thought that it looked really good. The only problem is that the Smooth-On 65d that he suggests is kind of expensive. So I was wondering if there are any cheaper options that could achieve a similar result.
