Hi guys,

Here is my entry to the 2014 RPF Halloween Costume Contest........... The Werewolf.

I have always loved Werewolf's and I have always wanted to build a Halloween costume, that I could wear publicly at horror events.

I started off with a cheap looking rubber mask and took it apart from its original hood/hair (bright ginger urghhhhh not a good look for a werewolf). I then bought a used hairy dark brown cushion from a car boot sale that I thought might work well. I opened up the cushion to find the label and it stated the cushion was from a company called Next.

I then decided to spend the next few weeks lurking around the dark corners of ebay to find more dark brown hairy Next cushions. Thankfully I managed to locate another 6.

I used the Ginger hair as a template and cut around its shape onto the inside of the Next cushion. I then sewed the new hair to the original rubber face. I then mixed some liquid latex to various dark colours, browns and blacks etc and painted some shading and highlights to the rubber face. Once dry I bought some elastic fabric and sewed to to the sides of the eyes within the mask so when I wear the mask, The elastic pulls the mask tight so my eyes line up with the eye hole slits.

Once the new cushions arrived through the mail, I bought a cheap black T-Shirt and sewed on a cut up cushion to the chest area. I added extra at the bottom to tuck into my trousers. I sewed it so when I breath in and out the hair moves with my chest making the werewolf look like he is actually breathing (I'll add a link to a video showing this).

I had bought a red shirt to go with a Wolverine cosplay that I thought was not working out to well so I cut it up to make it look like I ripped out of it and added red blood stains and dirtied it up here and there.

I then cut up a old pair of jeans and again added fake blood stains and dirtied it up.

I then wanted to add a 3rd part of clothing for a more realistic look so I bought a plain white vest that I once again cut up and added blood effect and dirt.

Now I had the clothing and chest/head, I had to start on the arms...... I bought a foam filled prop of two latex monster arms on poles ??? yeah I also don't what their purpose was but they suited my needs perfectly.

I pulled out all the foam and the two poles and cut off 1/3 of the end so they fitted to my forearms and would not distort if I bend my elbow's.
I mixed a load of latex with dark brown paint and covered the two arms and added shading and left to dry.

Here is my daughter modelling the new brown arms.

I then cut up two Next cushions and sewed them to the latex arms and added a small amount of loose hair to the knuckles and fingers for effect. My top half is now complete....

Next I needed two latex monster/werewolf feet. I looked online but the price was high and I had no idea what the quality was like so before I bought some I decided to have a go at making my own...... So I bought a simple cheap pair of Hobbit feet..... Yes Hobbit feet.

I cut off the hair and stretched the latex feet over a comfy old pair of trainer shoes for a snug fit. Once stretched the feet took a elongated look that was perfect! and the best part was they where comfy :lol

I then cut and sewed on yet another 2 cushions (one for each leg) and added the off cut latex sleeve from the arms so when I pull up the hair, the latex part sticks to my real legs. Add a little velcro to the inside of the ripped jeans and they where ready to wear.

Now that the costume is made, all I have to do before an event it use Snazaroo black makeup around my eyes and then pop in some white zombie eyes or yellow monster eyes.....

My fave is the zombie eyes because they make me look more feral. Here is a pic of me for Christmas :devil

Great costume! Very ingenious use of materials. Maybe it's just me, but it doesn't appear that your attachments are showing up.

Opppps looks like I submitted it to the competition of 2012 and not the new one. I tried uploading a pic to the new gallery, but it uploaded the wrong pic, can I change or edit it ?
