So here we are, it seems like Salt Lake Comic Con was just yesterday. What a fantastic time, especially with all the other Fallout cosplayers, old friends and new acquaintances. I figured that it's overdue that I posted my full Legion Centurion Armor set. While it's ALMOST done, there are only two things that I'm missing (Lower Chestplate and Hip-Plates that I am currently working on).
With a bit of explanation, this costume was made very specifically for Radiation Canyon III, a Live Action Fallout Simulation. With that, my character (Atticus Octavius) was a Legion Centurion stranded out in the Utah Wasteland, far from Arizona and New Vegas. He was also part of a non-canon division within The Legion, called "Oculus" (a latin term for scout) that was assigned to scout the Desert Wastes of the West and train tribes in the ways of the sword behind enemy lines, for extended periods of time. Therefore, many parts of his armor were designed to be different than your standard Centurion, including some future storage and "sand" protection since standard Centurions would be in encampments that moved with the army instead of being part of a small expeditionary force.
With that little bit of background, here's the armor pieces, described in detail, and the photos at Salt Lake Comic Con wearing it!
(If you have any questions on how I made it, feel free to ask!)
So here's the right shoulder plate that came attached to the LAX/Hockey armor that I purchased at the DI thrift store (around $5). This is without the stolen t-45d shoulder piece, for a reason. Since I figured I may change out the shoulder to a better one (the one I'm currently using was a scrapped t-45d Large Shoulder for my full t-45d BOS set) I put two Velcro Brand Strips on the center and backside for sturdy attachment, but easy removal. Unfortunately, It covers up my Legion Oculus insignia
The full Chestpiece with the t-45d attached. As you can see, there are a few modifications to this that aren't on the Legion Centurion from New Vegas. The two leather pouches attached were actually glued right to the metal armor plate that came with the pads. I actually cut out leather pouches from a purse I found at a thrift shop and glued them on to it using Hot Glue, and they are very secure on it. The white belt is the future attachment point for the lower chest piece, a piece from a belt that I cut and sewed onto the pads. Finally, the sash is just 1' long strips that I layered using hot glue. Still need to dust it up and remove the glue spots.
The modified Super Mutant Brute helmet. I also added a link on my previous post on the construction of this helmet at the bottom of the post
The classic Legion logo, hand painted onto the right "bicep" section that is partially visible under the t-45d shoulder piece.
Size comparison of the Leg Plates to the Helmet
The two intact leg plates (Umpire Leg Pieces I believe) that I found at a thrift store. I kept these pretty simple, three coats of black, silver then a sealing coat after scarring and detailing with a putty knife and nail polish remover.
With of course, the smaller bullet belt (worn around the waist until I can attach it to hang across the chest) along with the dual elbow pieces with the Oculus and Legion insignias. Lastly the forearm piece that was a shin guard previously.
And finally, here's the entire Armor Set on location at Salt Lake Comic Con!
This armor set was a blast to make, on display, and of course to wear around at SLCC. I cannot wait to finish it completely and take some more photos out in the Utah Deserts, and of course at the next Radiation Canyon!
