Dredd build WIP

After much delay, procrastination and generally trying to pluck up the courage to start, I have decided to get a move on. A word of advice before you all delve into the pictures hoping to see something masterful, I am a rank amateur, and much of what I do is on the hoof, of 'make-do.'

I decided to start from the ground, up. Also, very little of this build will be 100% screen / comic accurate.

Boots...
I bought a pair of old biker boots off flea-bay
Stuck some modelling clay on the toes, and eventually got an approximation of the toe-caps. Rather than do one, and hope to pull 2 casts off it, I went for 2 individual caps. I see that one doesn't mirror the other, but if someone is going to kneel down and check them out on Halloween night, then more power to them. :)

Knee / Elbow pads...
I had an old set of carpet fitter's knee-pads from which I removed the plastic 'pad.' I used this as the template / armature onto which I added more clay, which I shaped into what you see below.

Over all, a couple of hours work.

Next up, will be sanding and tidying up the clay with a view towards making silicone casts for the costume.

Any tips or pointers will be gratefully received.

Harry.

So, here are my knee/elbow pads. Very basic build. I heated some roll mat foam, which I got from a camping store and then formed the heated foam around the plastic knee cup from the original fitters' pad. Once formed, I cut out the slices, then coated them in 5 coats of slightly watered down PVA glue. I hot glued these onto the plastic 'cups' ant hot glued the straps onto the inside.

You can't see them clearly, but the pads have been given a coat of resin, and some faux leather to the inside. I also added some velcro, which will marry up to velcro tape stitched onto the corresponding areas of my suit. The suit is a Stormtrooper under-suit. I've replaced the zip, but it's still not as chunky as I'd like. The collar has been stiffened. As you can see, the pads will stay in place, but their weight will be supported by the straps.

The 'fly in my ointment' is the smoothing out of the helmet. This really is being a pain in the backside, not to mention my wrists :-/
