I love that joke...
Back story:
A few years ago I made a copy of the Rexim-Favor just so I could have a replica of the ALIEN Nostromo Pistol. A few die hard ALIEN fans took an interest, so I made some molds and offered castings. However, the piece turned out to be far more popular because of the same base weapon was used for both the Dr. Evizan blaster and the Stormtrooper "Short Ranged Combat Pistol' as seen in the Visual Dictionary.
After a while the molds got to a point where I didn't feel comfortable with them any more so I decided that before I would redo them I needed to make some improvements on the master, which would include correcting two glaring inaccuracies that had always bothered me. The first was the absence of knurled bands located on the front and rear of the receiver. The second were the checker-less grips. Enlisting the aid of two other talented RPF members, Darcjedi and Juno, these problems were corrected. Jeff turned and machined the bands while Tiffany milled up two separate checkered patterns that I then molded and cast to apply on the grip. I also closed the 'dust cover', covering the ejection port and removing the cocking bolt, making it more accurate to the Trooper version of the prop. Several smaller, less obvious upgrades were also made.
The final hurdle was to address the scope issue. I wanted people to be able to use a real scope instead of a casting so I built a custom rail onto the piece that would accommodate a fairly accurate (not to mention very common and inexpensive) alternative, which I found in the 'tasco 4 x 20 rifle scope'. These can be purchased off of e-bay for around $6.00. All I needed to do was unscrew the windage knobs and turn the cleat around in the other direction since the Trooper version's scope is actually facing backwards.
So here it is:
Thanks for looking.
