Groot Costume: Guardians of the Galaxy

Hiya! This will be a thread for the progress of my Groot suit for NYCC 2014. I started this build about 2 weeks ago after seeing some amazing Groot costumes all over Facebook. This build will be all EVA and Pipe Insulation foam just hot-glued to an under suit. I will be making some makeshift stilts for this costume as well. In total, I will only be about 6'7" in the suit because I am only 5'3" and if I built the stilts too tall I could fall over easily. Here is my progress so far on the suit:

















The eyes won't be blue, but I had some old sunglasses on hand and I wanted to see what it would look like with the lenses. The suit will be given a texture with tissue paper and tacky glue after I clean up some of the edges. After that it will be painted the correct colors and I will add in some twigs, vines, and moss. To top it off, I plan on buying the Rocket Raccoon plush and mounting it onto the shoulder of the costume Let me know what you think!

Looks great! Can't wait to see the finished product.

Did you use lo-temp hot glue and what did you use as an under suit i was going to use a zentai suit i found at the usedstore

I just used high temp hot glue and had a Nike pro combat shirt with some running pants and a green balaclava sewn together and had a zipper sewn onto the back of the shirt and balaclava.

Thats great. One of the best groot heads I've seen so far. Keep it up.

how long did that take for the top half? it looks good.

Thanks! It took me about 4 days to finish the top half.

Keep in mind that this is not on a mannequin or anything at the moment, so it looks like it's slouching haha. The mask will also sit higher on my head. I still have some more bark plates to add to the front and back. Then I will top it off with some more moss and a Rocket Raccoon plush to (hopefully) sit on my shoulder
