My Back to the Future Collection and Projects

Re: My Back to the Future props and Projects

Now that my MP jacket is at the tailors I'm starting to work on my look alike shah safari shirt. I say work on because I have to remove the pocket on the front and shorten the sleeves because it came as a long sleeve shirt. I also ordered a maroon shirt but it got lost in the mail and I had to ask the company to ship another one. They did it no problem but I still have to wait which is a bummer.

Got the sleeves hemmed using iron on hem tape.

And for dramatic effect lol

My paint for my Nike bruins came in today. I'm almost finished with one shoe. I'll post pictures tomorrow.

Re: My Back to the Future props and Projects

I got my maroon shirt in a little early. The picture doesn't capture it well, but it's a little darker in real life.

I love what you did with the shirt and the bruins, with a minimum budget you have an excellent result. Great collection!

Thank you. I pick up my MP jacket on Tuesday from the tailor so stay tuned for that.

Re: My Back to the Future props and Projects

I will soon be the proud own of this vintage Class-5 vest. Its not the exact model from the movie as its from the late 70s, but it is almost perfect. It just needs some extra stitching on the front and back, the collar buttons removed, and to be recolored. And for $74 you can't beat that.

The second picture is how my jacket looks right now. The cuff isn't attached yet though.

If you're interested in this one, let me know. The label is ink stained but easy enough to replicate once you have the original to crib from.

Re: My Back to the Future props and Projects

I also aquired this vest from ebay. I will alter this one as well.

This is the real thing.

The one I bought above also needs to extra stitch lines on the front and back and the collar needs to be rounded and the buttons removed. The second to last button on the bottom of the vest also needs to go.

This is my best attempt at making it look like the real thing lol. I only have my phone so Photoshop isn't an option.

Re: My Back to the Future props and Projects

I will start this project when I go home for Christmas. The first thing I will do is remove the buttons. Then I'll take the vest to my friend who has agreed to help me with the sewing. Then to get the blue color out I will use a dye remover that works on polyester. This vest is a poly cotton blend so it should work.

The inner dark blue fabric is nylon and doesn't come out with dye removers so I will prpbably have to use some sort of brush on flexible permanent paint. Still researching that.

Re: My Back to the Future props and Projects

Because I tried it on my green one, and couldn't manage to make it work, but maybe I removed it too early, I don't know, please let us know if it works, it could be helpful.

The polyester dye remover requires you to basically boil it for about half an hour. Same thing for dying it. And I believe since it is a poly cotton blend that the color will come out a little easier than if it were 100% polyester. The one thing I'm worried about is the nylon lining. I'm trying to find a basic brush on nylon fabric paint to look just good enough.
