We got a commission to do Riven's Sword from League of Legends.
The process started with a 3d model made in Autodesk Inventor. It was then broken into parts to be laser cut or 3d printed.
The main parts of the blade were 3d printed with a Makerbot Replicator 2. While these were printing we laser cut parts for the middle of the blade.
After the parts finished printing they were glued and clamped together.
Next was base assembly and wiring of the LEDs.
This was our first test fit of all of the pieces.
Bondo Spot FIller was used to smooth out the 3d printed parts.
Here is the main blade piece after several coats and sanding.
It was then assembled with the hilt and hilt guard pieces and painted. I didn't get any pictures of this process but it was pretty straight forward. Primer, basecoat, sand, coat, top coat, sand, weather, and clear coat.
This was the final result.
This was a pretty quick build but was fun to do. It ended up only weighing around five pounds and can be easily handled or swung around.
Let me know any comments, questions or suggestions!
