H2O: Just Add Water Crystal Pendants

H2O is a kid's show on Nickelodeon from a while back, and it's been one of my favorites ever since. There's a spinoff series now to it, but that's a whole other topic I could get into. :p

I've wanted to make the pendants from the show for a while, as currently the ones that sell on Etsy and eBay don't look at all like the ones in the show. I'm thinking of casting them in plastic or resin, and although they'd have airbubbles I think I could get them just clear enough maybe. But I'm wondering how I would get the original to make the mold from. The shape is symmetric and perfect and I'm not sure if I could sculpt it so I thought I'd come here for some ideas on the molding process of it?
People have told me it looks like a rupee from Zelda, and it does, but it's not the precise shape. I really want an exact replica of the show's crystals, not just something that looks like a bead.

Then for comparison, the ones up for sale currently (I'd like to sell them on Etsy if I could successfully make a crystal that looks more like the ones in the show than these):

then the ebay ones:

H2O Necklace Season 3 Blue Swarovski Crystal Pendant H20 Just Add Water Locket | eBay
HH20 Just Add Water Mermaid Blue Crystal Necklace Pendant H2O 2 BFF Necklace'S | eBay

The rupee shape is similar, but it's just not as close as I'd like. http://img2.etsystatic.com/il_fullxfull.301278518.jpg
If only I had a 3D printer, haha. :p

Right now I'm trying to find cord online to match... reference pictures I have to go off of (not much unfortunately):

I feel like this looks really similar but it's not at all shiny in the show, so it's not ideal. Brown Cord H20 Just Add Water Mermaid Style Blue Crystal Necklace Pendant H2O | eBay
What sort of search terms should I use? It doesn't look like leather or suede.

The close up looks like the prop makers used looks like brown plastic cording, like what they use on key chains at summer camp.
Like this stuff http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YU1frxjTS...M/E2LIf50qFo0/s1600/lanyards-plastic-camp.jpg

It also looks like they used FIMO to make the bit that wraps around / holds the crystal.

The crystal seems to be different shapes when more than one person is wearing them in the same shot. So I think the prop maker is using "Auqua blue, acrylic, vase filler, gemstones, crystals," which would be these https://img1.etsystatic.com/023/0/7365882/il_570xN.474146253_3ixn.jpg

I think you can get all these things at any art store. If you want exactly what they have.

If you want one that looks nicer because you want to wear it, I would say go to michael's (or what ever art store is in your area) they will have the stones in the wedding section. you can buy by the bag for pretty cheap. Then you can pick out the one stone that looks the best. They should also have a already braided thin leather strap necklace in their make your own jewelry section.

Good luck and keep us posted :)

I had forgotten I had this thread up here, thanks for the response! I hadn't thought about the brown plastic cording like you mentioned, might look into it. I still intend to make these, but I've got some other projects to complete first. I've been to stores in person (Michael's, Joann's, A.C. Moore) and haven't been able to find anything though.
