X Men Days of Future Past Magneto Costume (Past)

Hi all!

My name is Jayden and I'm new here to the RPF, however I've been following a large amount of all your wonderful creations for many years now. I'd previously begun an Iron Man foam replica suit but never got around to finishing it. (May get around to doing it before Avengers 2 haha.) Anyway, I've become extremely obsessed with Michael Fassbender's new Magneto costume for X-men: Days of Future Past. For the helmet I've used Shaw's helmet from First Class as the new helmet is significantly different to the former and no pepakura files exist yet. However I've gotten to the body filler stage of the helmet and begun the process of making the chest armor pieces out of foam (I've attached photos.) and my designs for the cape and scarf and whatnot. Hope you all enjoy :)

Just a quick update of the helmet W.I.P. First layer of Body Filler has been applied, as well as a spot-touch-up layer to add a bit more symmetry and erase imperfections. Before I move onto another whole layer of body filler I'm going to do another spot-touch-up as I've run into a few more problems regarding the nose-covering plate bit, which needs to be built up! Also glued the chest piece of Magneto's torso armor, and cut the edges to add more curvature to the pieces.

Hey mate,

Still a W.I.P at the moment... Ran into several problems with the helmet so I've created a foam version for reshaping and sizing to get the DOFP look. As for the armor, I used an old assembled Iron Man Mark IV Chest piece as a base and used the shape of it to trace Magneto's chest piece onto a new foam mat then simply cut out the pieces and shaped them with a heat gun The other torso pieces were all drawn freehand and reversed then traced to look symmetrical. Hope that helps. :)

If you want a really good helmet check out migillicuty420a on youtube he does amazing work. the videos show his first class helmets but I've been in contact with him and he is working on a dofp helmet and should be done soon.

I second checking out migillicuty420a on youtube. Excellent work. Shame we cant see all the steps he took to make the helmets.

Alright, I gotta ask...

I'm working on my own DOFP Magneto and so far, so good. Helmet is done, undergear, and I know how to do the armor. BUT THAT CAPE?! How in Hell on Earth is it assembled? I know it's supposedly one piece slipped over the head and shoulders, and I have the cape pieces ready, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how it's all put together.

Little help? Anyone?

Hi there! Your chest armor looks great!!

Just had a question for you.... how are you attaching the armor to make it wearable? Are you using a vest underneath? A shirt? Or did you just make a base-armor piece to attach it all to?

I'm working on this costume for my husband, and I have everything all cut out and finished, but I'm at a loss on how to attach it all together.... Anyways, thanks for the help! Looks GREAT! I'm curious to see finished pictures!

Hi all! Sorry for the lack of content on this thread. Helmet turned out rather bogus (Cheek area was bent and back had a huge dent) so I had to scrap it,

in favor of this foam version which I've put together and will be far easier to modify to the DOFP look rather than FC. This is just a rough test fit (Which was far too large for my already big head) So will eventually get around to making a smaller, better version to work with and later modify by slowly shaping and cutting away at. In terms of the armor pieces: Much like the helmet, they will eventually be plasti-dipped (Or sprayed, rather) and glued straight onto whatever material I choose to use for the bodysuit.

Still thinking about making a template that everyone can access, If I did that though I'd want to spend more time making it absolutely perfect so it isn't crap. I've got exams next week so there probably won't be much contact from me at least till mid-November.. But thanks for the kind words guys and gals! :)
