Costume build for san Japan.

Starting it with pepakura. Have most of the suit built from it. Other parts will be built from scratch from sentra or eva foam.

Have started to add resin to the parts I have built.

Started with the helmet. Sanded some of the high peaks down and have now added some bondo to the outside. Will post new picks of it soon.

Here's the helmet with its first coat of bondo on the outside. A little rough. But not bad for a first time.

And here's one of the inside with the rondo slush in it. Underneath it there is also a fiberglass mat layer.

This thing is starting to get a little heavy.

After two more layers of bondo and lots of sanding its starting to look like a proper helmet. Also got the visor cut out so I can actually see out of it.

Once I have the helmet nice and smooth with all the little holes filled I'm going to use a dremel with a router attachment to carve the lines into it. Just hope I can keep my hand steady enough.

Just a little something we did over the weekend. Got tired of not being able to resin or bondo outside cause of the cold so we built a small "hot box" on my apartment patio. I got a little carried away as I tend to do and moved most of my tools into it and made it a nice work station. Now I don't have to work out of my closet anymore.

Worked on the helmet some more. Hit it with some spot filler and sanded down some more high areas. Then did a primer coat so the trouble areas would be more visible. Its starting to look like a proper helmet.

It always depends on the guests. If it is a voice actor I desperately want to meet, or I have a cool costume I want to submit in a contest I will go.
I have never gone to San Antonio alone. If it is soon I will have to pass. If it is in the Summer I may give it a go.

I hope you have a fun time there.

Got home from work and started back on the helmet with more spot putty and lots of sanding. I think it it getting close to being ready for the next step.

More sanding and a little more spot filler and one more coating of primer. I feel like its to a point where I can proceed with the next step on the helmet, details! but that will come later as I have been neglecting the other suit parts. So for now I will put it aside and start back on the other parts.

Started on the forearm piece. Got the inside a layer of fiberglass and a coating of rondo. And the outside has two layers of bondo. Still needs a lot of sanding but its coming along.
