Looks like Kristen Stewart's "friend" may direct a live action Ghost in the Shell:

I love the movie, I would love to see a live action version

I always have doubts about americans making movies based on anime and manga. They should hire the writers of Stand Alone Complex and film in japan with funding from Dreamwave with the only americans in the film (unless the story calls for the US to be in it) is Batou. Sadly we're gonna get a badly cast movie full of shaky-cam and bad cgi with very little cyberpunk elements. Then again the new anime series looks horrible too.

I love all the films and the new Arise episodes have been excellent! (Almost, I think it was Innocence that I enjoyed the least)

All the standalone episodes have been perfect. There are plenty of interesting ideas they could play around with. Or they could **** it up royally

I don't even want to think who is being considered to be cast as Motoko. Or the other members of Section 9 for that matter.

Arise is out already? Hopefully cartoon network gets it so i can see an episode. hopefully with the same cast as Standalone.

Borders 1 and 2 have been out for a while. And I believe Borders 3 is out around June. And it's a completely different Japanese voice cast from SAC.

I was thinking the english cast when it gets brought over. My issue is that this is a hollywood movie so there'll be no asians in it and it'll be set in future LA.

We'd probably get a better quality product from a porn company than hollywood, they're putting more effort into their films. The set of the married with children spoof even impressed the actor who played bud bundy.

I love the anime, so hearing about this makes me somewhat a skeptic.

My only hope is that they come out with some nice models or toys of the Tachikomas in the tie-in merchandise, I love those things.

Wait... Is this an another adaptation of the manga, a remake of the anime movie or the TV show? Because the Tachikomas are never featured in the anime movie. The closest you get in the film is this: the spider tank the Major fights in order to get to the Puppet Master.

Knowing HOllywood it'll pick and choose bits of the storyline to use and ignore others. The tachikomas and fujikomas will look like transformers.

I could see maybe doing a movie set in the universe but based somewhere else, i mean you got all of Europe and the American Empire. I can't believe Shirow would allow this, he's always very protective of his stuff.

the anime wasn't just a good story but the music and the pace were great.

they're going to muck it up, for sure.

they probably flashed a big check in front of Shirow. I'm not doubting his artistic integrity but, to get attention, from Hollywood must be flattering.

I'd say you were being a bit far fetched, but than I remembered that I actually read the original uncensored Manga of Ghost in the Shell and having a porn scene would actually be sticking to the source material. I'm not kidding. There is a scene in the Manga where Batou is trying to find the Major and he stumbles upon one of her "virtual lesbian group sex recording" sessions. The first american version of the manga pretty much censored this scene out with just a shot of the girls relaxing on a boat, but the uncensored version has three pages of this stuff. And this is used to explain how some aspects of syncing your mind into the net actually works, because while having sex over the web is possible, it has to be done with the same gender because each person receives the same sensations as the other. Sex between a male and female is actually painful because the whole experience is trying to stimulate parts of their body that do not exist. This is why when Batou stumbles upon the major's session, he's trying to fondle breasts he does not have and receives pain when one of the girls... never mind.

This news isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I'm just interested in what kind of direction the film will take. While the original movie was my first experience with Ghost in the Shell, I found it to be too heavy on the philosophical area. When I read the Manga, I thought I was reading a fan-redo since it felt nothing like the film. When I watched the "Stand Alone Complex" series, that's when the whole thing finally clicked. I love the series! I own all seasons including the second season in their original tins and the movie in it's steel book packaging. Than "Innocence" came out and I thought "Oh. Well since the series has left an impression, maybe the director will tone down on the phil-" HOLY CRAP! They won't stop quoting philosophical quotes! Make it stop! Also, Batou and his dog aren't the most interesting characters.

I'd say that the film should have Motoko, or at least a female lead character in the spirit of the source material, but given that Rupert Sanders is directing it, I have a feeling that he'll just be casting his next date.

Actually alot of the lesbian stuff is in the copy of GIS i have from darkhorse in the trade paperback, i mean they censor stuff but you can see plain as day what they're doing. i think some of the censorship is on the japanese end as they make alot of stuff get censored befoer it even leaves the country and like in this case it's pretty pointless as it's not hiding anything. Yeah the 2 GIS movies are crap made by the same guy and were meant to be artsy. Only the tv show is any good and the stand alone movie. To be honest i'd like to see an anime in the style of the original manga and the old playstation game cut scenes.

Hit the nail on the head Jeyl...I enjoyed the first film regardless, but Innocence was just too much...I love Solid State, however.
