Actually Generations used the Mark VII tricorder. The Mark IX/Xs weren't seen in the films until First Contact.

Also, if IIRC- the Mark X's from First Contact/Insurrection have different colored scanner LEDs.

I'm not sure if the maker of the electronics wants me to post his info, but it's the guy who did them for the show, FWIW. I wrote him an email asking if it's okay, so I'll get back to you. If you REALLY want to know, just PM me. I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem. That's how I got in touch with him 
The installation varied. The Mark VII science was a snap. The medical was a bit trickier because there were so many seperate boards and it was a bit difficult to reach the areas in the scanner pocket. The Mark VI science was a bit tougher because of the limited space created by the scanner pocket and the addition of the sound module. I had to get a little creative with where I put things.

The maker of the electronics was Brian Makepeace who built them for the show and now does stuff through Roddenberry.com. His email is propelectronics@roddenberry.com. The tricorder electronics are not currently offered through rodd.com though.
