Not 100% sure of the correct name for this blaster

Needed another project & spotted this Jabba's Palace Blaster kit that Odiwan72 had for sale in the junkyard,

in his words "curious to see what you can do with this damaged bugger ;)"

I fancied trying something different & building up my collection of non DL44 Blasters

Arrived in the UK in no time nicely packaged from Germany,

I really liked that it was in its original box, I like how big the RO72 Panther De-Luxe is :)

Came with everything I should need to build it except the scope mount.

Probably not the best time of year for painting with the temp dropping to freezing in my unheated garage but I'm too impatient to wait until spring to build it.

I don't for a second pretend that it's gonna be super accurate, I just want a nice representation for my collection

got all the parts laid out ready for priming & painting

I fashioned a pretty crude scope mount out of an end cap from an office desk :lol

done quite a bit of filing on the scope itself

Re: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18 build

Great find! Ever since I found the RPF I have regretted parting with my Panther back in the late 70's... :(

Re: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18 build

Getting there with this Blaster:)

Gave the metal parts a quick coat of satin black, tried just painting the barrel but I felt It stood out too much against the rest of it,

Primed the Plastic grip/shells & gave them a coat of black, Id usually give them a coat of silver for weathering but my feeling is that this part of the blaster would be plastic not metal :lol

the detail parts & scope I undercoated in silver,

added the brown to the grips its not an accurate shade but I'm pretty happy as it is (not going for 100% accurate)

finally I started weathering the detail parts, I always find these are the bits that give stuff character

re-assembled the RO-72 figured I wasn't planning on taking back apart so I added some epoxy to the screws for stability.

It was a fun little blaster to put together

Re: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18 build

Excellent result. Thanks for all of the photos - a very useful resource for scratchbuilding.

Re: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18 build

I thought that rather than clutter up this lovely forum with lots of new build threads I'd just use this little thread of mine that nobody reads to keep track of my non DL-44 Blaster builds :lol

wasn't sure if I'd post this here as it's not really my build (just my paint)

I picked up a very cheap SE-14R Blaster from Ebay (the guy was local & dropped it round which was nice)

If I'm right this is the promo stormtrooper version it's a scratch build PVC/Metal/Resin/Wood so I can't take any credit for the build

It's not the most accurate, missing the textured grips & the knurling on the barrel, but its close enough for me proportions seem right ;)

the paint job was a little rough & it had quite a few patches of lumps & bumps (glue?) so I sanded it down & started over :)

Re: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18 build

Added the 4x20 Scope & weathered

glossed the grips just for a little variation

I have a 2nd Scope which I thought about adding but I think the mount is different for the Dr Evazan version

(I think these scopes are pretty cool for £4 each from eBay)

anyway, the SE-14 is far from my favourite blaster but when I saw it I thought why not, fills a hole in my collection & it's growing on me a bit,

going to have a go at a Princess Leia DDC Defender next using an airsoft BB gun as a base, see how that goes :lol

Re: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18 build & SE-14R

Started gathering parts for my attempt at a Princess Leia DDC Defender,

I don't want to (& can't afford) to spend any money on this so it's gonna be put together with bits & bobs I have laying around the place,

There is a guy near the hospital where I work who has a toy stall, he sells lots of airsoft BB guns, got talking to him when I was looking for base guns & he said that they often had broken/returned guns laying around at the warehouse & would I want any!

I said yes please as I figure they or the parts may come in handy for a build (& I never fire the things anyway) :lol

he gave me a P38 which I know is pretty wide of the mark but might make a half decent base gun,

got some threaded rod to extend the barrel & some stacked washers to create the radial engine part,

found the head of a torch to use for the muzzle & a broken car charger to use for the coiled wire

obviously this will be a long long way from accurate but that's not the goal anyway, just fancy trying a bit of a build for fun.

Re: Star Wars: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18, SE-14R & DDC Defender

so the build moves along, I've accepted that it's not going to be accurate in pretty much any dimension but I'll carry on anyway,

it's all hardware & spare parts so I think It's looking ok

Got the parts primed & ready to be glued together

Re: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18 build

Got it all put together & weathered :)

I know I've not got it 100% right but I'm Pretty pleased with how it's turned out.

It was a fun little blaster to put together

Great work as usual, Paul. I used to have one of these as a kid, and spent many happy hours plinking away at my Action Man - I'd build him a foxhole in the rockery and me and my brothers would take turns shooting at him. Innocent days, we'd probably get arrested if we did it today. Anyway, I'm clearing out Mum & Dad's shed next week, and Mum's pretty sure it's still there somewhere............

Re: Star Wars: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18, SE-14R & DDC Defender

See Paul...I KNEW you could do magic to my Jabba henchmen blaster kit.

Great work! My only suggestion would be to add some more weathering to the side-panels, otherwise I like what I see ;)
The "Rexim" looks aweful, but you did a good job converting it anyway. MAybe I have a set of more accurate front/ rear ends for this...will try to remind myself when I find some time to work on my props again

Markus

Re: Star Wars: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18, SE-14R & DDC Defender

Thank You for your comments

Badsprout: I really hope you unearth one from the shed :)

Markus: I Love the Jabba Blaster, I probably went a bit easy on the weathering on the side panels (unusual for me) maybe I go back to it, I think most of the decent props I have in my collection have something of yours in there :lol

I think I have to agree about the SE-14R Rexim, it was so cheap I figured it will do as a SE-14 shaped space holder until I eventually find a decent one or upgrade it :lol

So on the subject of awful props I've finished up the highly inaccurate DDC Defender ;)

Got it all put together, I'm actually quite pleased with it considering it's all spare parts & hardware & basically cost me nothing

I know that nothing about it is accurate but I do think it has the "vibe" of the Leia Blaster & I like that it's all metal & nice & heavy

would love to put together a more accurate one but I couldn't seem to even get started on finding parts, maybe one day I'll track down a cheap MR one but looking at them it doesn't seem likely:lol

Re: Star Wars: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18, SE-14R & DDC Defender

I got a couple of 3D printed Biker scout blasters, actually the 1st 3D printed thing I've seen up close,

I think it was the one Zenix here uploaded to thingverse

anyway I think they're pretty ace

I'm gonna keep 1 as it is & the other I'm gonna sand down, paint & weather,

Re: Star Wars: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18, SE-14R & DDC Defender

Despite sub zero temperatures in my garage I managed to get it sprayed black (I'm so impatient :lol)

it's covered most of the remaining tell tale 3D print lines that I couldn't sand out

just need to let it dry properly then I can put it back together & weather

which is after all why I painted an already black blaster black

I love that they just snap together :)

Cool stuff man! Keep posting them as you build them!

Re: Star Wars: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18, SE-14R, DDC Defender & Biker Scout

Got it put back together & gave it a little light weathering :)

these go together without glue which is cool

I think size & detail wise these are pretty good, I understand that the original props were quite small

Re: Star Wars: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18, SE-14R, DDC Defender & Biker Scout

How much work went into the sanding of the scout blaster to remove the print lines? I was interested in getting one of those but I tend to shy away from kits that need a decent amount of prep work.

Re: Star Wars: Jabba's Palace Guard Blaster DL-18, SE-14R, DDC Defender & Biker Scout

prep wasn't to bad to be honest, I gave it the once over with some fine sandpaper & then used a little bit of filler over some of the more obvious lines, maybe an hours prep in total if that,

I've had resin kits which have taken a lot more work to prep

I think 3D printing is amazing, I'd never seen anything 3D printed up close before, as I said I've kept one as it came because it was cheap enough & I love the almost velvet effect of the print & it's cool to show people :lol

I've just built a Hellboy Samaritan from a 3D printed kit & that needed even less prep

I'd definitely build more in the future

had most of my Blasters out while I was moving stuff around today

as you can see a mix of All Metal, Resin & Plastic

terrible what a year & a half on this forum can do, I had none before I joined here & swore I only wanted one :lol

too bad I've only got room to display 1 at a time
