C3PO Head build.

Backwards lamb

A while back i got a starbuckcylon C3PO head, and only recently got round to building him up.

Here are a few final shots and WIP.

First mock fit with all parts rough trimmed to fit.

After filling and sanding and painting and repeating a few times.
I didn't need the finish to be perfect as i am making a battered C3PO not a perfect factory finish one.

I also heated a section on his forehead and pressed it in to try and match his head dent.

I painted the helmet in stages (i didnt take photos until this stage.)

I primed it. then painted it black, Then a silver, after the silver i went in with some latex on some high points and parts where i thought would be damaged or peeling etc. Then i gave the whole lot a coat of gold.

once the gold had dried i rubbed off the latex to reveal the silver underneath.

i then wired up the eyes and glued it all in place.
(he looks quite shocked about being in to halves.)

I added a sound chip that is meant to be in a gift card or something of the like (cheap and cheerful.)
It has five buttons with a sound on each.

This video is before i did the final weathering of the head.

To weather it down to the final look i wanted i went over one layer of light sanding with a medium grit sandpaper to scratch and scuff it. Then i used some plain printer paper to rub and dull down the gold without scratching it.

Then i gave it a few hits of two or three different browns and yellows of dry brush and washes to get a dusty dirty look.

Then i added some black washes to make him really oily. I added a black oil streak down the back of his head coming out of the rear detail because i thought it looked good.

Final head weathered and all lit up.

Hope you like it.

if you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them and i will try and answer etc :)

That looks amazing. I'm about to be working on my own 3PO, and would like to know the details/specifics of how you got that gold so shiny. I looked for "plasticoat chrome gold" but didn't seem to find that. Is it "PlastiKote" of some kind maybe? What brand of black did you use and was it high gloss or something?

Thanks! Looks good!

Yes nice 3po head, but don't think Backward lamb will be answering any questions. This thread was started 3.5 years ago
and he was last active here a couple years back.

i am still active, just haven't posted in a long time :)

Yes it is plasti-kote paint. the chrome silver and black were the ones i used. i honestly cannot remember the brand of the black , it was probably an enamel paint of somesort, something i had in my paint box. i also cannot remember if it were gloss or matt. The gold paint is very good but it has faded in glossyness over the years but it still looks good.

Where did you get the soundboard is it hard to get the sounds on it?

I got the sound board from ebay, it was a usb connectable greeting card sound module (or something like that)
i cant seem to find any that have usb connection anymore. i wish i had purchased loads or them now. :|
