I actually saw this a couple weeks before the national release, and kind of enjoyed it. I've not seen the Heston one, which was already a remake of Ben Hur, but hear that for some reason the director inserted some homoerotic subtext for some reason, but in this one it's clearly just brother/adopted brother. I thought was pretty decently acted, the special effects were amazing, the Galley scenes were stunning and the chariot race pretty amazing as well. It's definitely a heavily Christian film, and even though I'm not a Christian I enjoyed it and the message. Hey, I'm not a witch and I enjoyed Harry Potter after all.
That said, I did get to see it for free as part of a local Chik Fil Lay breakfast and a movie thing as being a frequent customer of one of the local restaurants.
