Anyone have any good clear screen caps or photos of the actual prop? Was it made by the prop dept. or did they hire someone to engrave the original gun?

Bizzare. I was just thinking about this prop and was going to come on here and see if anyone had done one or had any ifo. Hope you get some answers, for it's surely something I'd like to know more about.

I wonder how close the gun is to existing colts of that era, especially in terms of the decorations. i dug up a few tidbits...

Hunh... a Paterson Colt that fires cased cartridges... made about forty years before Colt started making cartridge firearms. I wonder where ol' Sam found the primers and cases to make those thirteen cartridges?

The engraving looks a little spartan for period work. It looks rather like whoever was working on it had enough time to lay in the major lines, but they grabbed it for production before he was finished.

There are repros available, though I'm not certain they're still in production. The dollar-Euro exchange rate has sucked for a while, making the Italian repros much spendier:

I'm pretty sure it is an 1836 paterson. The engraving looks to be a little more advanced and intricate than prop guys would have done. I'm still wondering if it was hired out to an engraver. Thanks for the pics guys.

gah - you know, somewhere I've seen a Patterson with that very engraving I think. Now I can't remember where though.

(I think it was one of the italian repro imports, but an older one)

I would love to score one of those Colt's...and preferably the case it came in as well, would love to see if anyone could find a good replica of it
