Matrix reloaded neo coats, Anyone?

I have the Abbyshot Lobby Reloaded in wool. It's a very nice coat, although I understand they've updated their pattern to match a coat replica that was given away as a prize for a contest. It's supposed to be an exact replica of the screen-worn coat.

Anyway, this is their older version. I had the collar modified slightly to more accurately reflect what was seen on screen, but I think it's pretty close otherwise.

I was looking at the Abbyshot site earlier, and I was blown away. After I hesitated to kick and scream over their prices, I noticed the have this same coat, but made off ITALIAN wool. I said to myself, "I want that one."

I have the Abbyshot wool version. The material doesn't have that slight shine the screen-used material in Reloaded has, it is completely matte. It has a very similar pattern though.
The coat will fit amazingly since they will adjust it for free if it doesn't fit. It is quite warm, a (near)snow-temperature kind of coat and very impressive. Two things I've noticed about the design is that the skirt is a half circle which looks too full for a hero version and that the sleeves attach a bit lower to the body than the movie coat.

Only other maker I've really looked into is Baron Boutique. Their material looks more accurate and could very well be the one screen-used as they claim. They use a very thin lining judging by the samples I got and the final product seems thinner and less warm than Abbyshot's, which might match the movie better. Seem to make it with a very big skirt, but judging by some customer comments they seem to make great products and are very open to customisation.

Both look to have very screen accurate patterns now. I suggest getting their free samples if you consider these to be within your budget. Since I like a coat to be useful, I'd pick the warmer wool Abbyshot version. (it just doesn't look like a spring coat to me). They also make a jacket version (my idea, yes I have strange tastes) in both the wool and their other materials. Thinking of selling mine and getting that with a thigh length skirt.

I've got one from here:

I really didn't get it as a "replica" but I just wanted a new black coat. (In fact, I really hate the fact that you can't wear a black trenchcoat these days without getting Matrix comments... darn Wachowskis.

It's Screen accurate to the casual observer (think FX-trooper) and costs a lot less than the Abbyshot. They also have it in different fabrics. Though I will say that the craftsmanship is only so-so. It's definately not a tailored work of art.

Museum Replicas has one called the Nehru. They have now a special edition with cloth covered buttons and a "full" range of sizes instead of their usual S-M and L-XL. Don't know how accurate it is as I don't know anyone that has one but the price is considerably cheaper than the AbbyShot.

The Nehru is no where near accurate. The buttons are completely wrong, and the collar is not exactly correct. If you are on a budget it might suit you but if you are going for accuracy AbbyShot is about as good as you are going to get.

BTW-their latest pattern was I believe based on our Ryukumon(sp?)'s Japanese Matrix coat which was supposedly made from the screen used patterns.

Figured it wasn't. But there is a big difference in price; 150 vs. 500-700. I am thinking of doing a Neo costume to go along with a friend's Trinity costume but I can't really rationalize that much for the coat.

It is a huge difference. The Nehru is mass produced while the AS coat is hand tailored.

I thought there was a Hot Topic version as well which was even cheaper but I could be mistaken.

There's an adult costume version you can find on eBay that's cheap and nowhere near as long as needed. I think it barely goes below the knees from what I remember.

Yeah, it was about $75.00 last time I checked. I tried it on, and it was worm. I'm definatelly in for accuracy.

Hey, any chance our resident Canadian jacket maker make a run of these with the same fabrics Abby uses?

He just pushed back any work on the War of the Worlds jacket because he's so busy. So who knows when he could get to new projects.

Too bad. Unlike most movie jackets and garments, this coat would seem like a quicky for a seasoned seamtress. I want both the lobby reloaded and train station coat.

Here's mine that my wife made for me for Halloween last year. The pics are a bit blurry but the coat rocks. B)
