Han Solo DL-44 blaster: ESB Bespin, Hoth , ANH Hero & Greedo Killer

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

Lol... not to derail the thread, but I am now doing the ROTJ... and the Mersonn will be Denix based so I can get my ROTJ Accurate with the MGC.

That said... I am thoroughly convinced there was a live fire ROTJ... so I may have to double up on my ESB and ROTJ eventually.

As for Country Paul... looking pretty fabulous dude. Very dark metals. The only thing I would suggest is less of a V2 Luke look on the scope brass rings and more bare brass showing in larger spots. All the real scopes I've come across have been naturally weathered very similarly.

I though that THIS was the live fire ROTJ blaster: http://www.originalprop.com/blog/20...-star-wars-han-solo-blaster-excitement-drama/ Or am I wrong? Pretty sure that THIS http://www.therpf.com/attachments/f...hail-king-baby-stembridge.jpg-6009d1196824854 is based on a real Mauser.

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

Put the filed down rear sight on my ANH blaster, I took the bluing down a bit with wire wool

I quite like all the different finishes on this blaster

still need to put the push rods on the barrel

I'm sure there's more I could do but I'm happy enough for now

still need to try the other flash hider at some point

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

I need to be building & tinkering at the moment :lol

Played about with my spare Denix for something to do

I've not ground down the pin in the bolt yet going to wait until I actually use it for a build as it's easier to take out if needs be

hopefully this will become my Greedo Killer at some point soon :)

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

I've been busily searching for weaver scopes for my upcoming Greedo Killer build

I've seen lots on eBay & for what seem like good prices but so far none of the sellers have been willing to ship to the UK, but I'll keep looking & asking :lol

Anyway I did manage to find 'a scope' which arrived today

I know absolutely nothing about scopes, I got it for £6 so I figure it'll do as a placeholder until I find something else

it's a united 25x20 rifle scope & says it was made in Japan, just a touch under 10" long

no idea how old it is but from the box & instructions it has kind of a 70's feel but what do I know

from the instructions it looks like it had a front bell that has been taken off, scope itself seems to work looking through it

anyway I figured it had kind of a Greedo Killer look to it (kind of)

i mean I know it's wrong in just about every dimension but but hopefully it'll look ok at a pinch

I've nothing to compare it to except the resin one on my Doopydoos GK, it's very slightly longer than that

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

Finally got around to adding my push rods/T-track greeblie to my ANH blaster (only held on with double sided tape)

so I guess it's pretty much finished (for now)

I had a go at weathering the Aluminium Flash hider just to see how it would work out

Im pretty sure I'll be sticking with the cast one, I know it doesn't have the thread but I love the weight of it & I liked how it worked our with the weathering

Im ok when it comes to using Alu black on a Denix but I don't seem to get on with it on real aluminium, probably doing something wrong :lol

Not sure it turned out too well really, but I just did it quickly & can always rub it down & have another go

Also took my ESB blasters apart to file down the sights & tidy up a bit

Im ok when it comes to using Alu black on a Denix but I don't seem to get on with it on real aluminium, probably doing something wrong :lol

If it seem like it is just running off (like water off a duck's back) then you need to go over the surface with steel wool or a high grit sandpaper prior to applying the Aluminum Black.

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

Greedo killer - the gathering

My scope rings arrived & I learned a lesson - they're wrong :lol

They looked like the right style in the little picture & they were cheap but I've realised that as they're a single piece I won't be able to get them on the scope

oh well, never mind, try again & I'll go back to looking for them & closer scopes, keep searching ebay ;)

I'll get there

You:

  1. remove the four small screws
  2. remove the top of the rings
  3. insert the scope onto the bottom of the rings
  4. put the ring tops back in place
  5. and replace the screws

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

They're one piece of metal, not a top & bottom

not sure how you're supposed to use them :lol

I can see now from looking at pictures that the right ones are made of 2 pieces as you describe

these ones just open a fraction wider when you unscrew them, I imagine you'd have to bend them open to get them on :facepalm

They looked nice

your new Greedo Killer looks amazing I'm very envious :)

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

Yikes, missed that. So many other aspects of them look similar that I didn't really notice the lack of screws. :facepalm

They might com in handy for a custom blaster project.

Thank you for the compliment. I did an amazing job in paying Scottjua to build it. :D But I do love it soooo much.

I know you will have an amazing GK so too.

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

Looking good on your GK too man! Though, because the GK was built on a MGC Mauser, the parts that would be white blued on a real Mauser were all dark, so doing it in that exact manner isn't totally accurate, though it doesn't necessarily need to be. For instance, a real Mauser's different bluing tones looks like this:

13828145_5[1].jpg

Which is what the Han ANH, the Luke ESB, and other live fire variants would and should look like, though it's completely personal preference, as I have sanded down parts that shouldn't necessarily have been to remove casting lines and improve the surface quality of rough parts, so that's fine.

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

you'd have to take the windage knob base off, slide the scope through/ fasten it and reattach the windage knob base...easy as that ;)
but the correct scope rings would attach much easer, of course :lol

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

Markus: I wasn't sure if I could just unscrew the windage knobs (didn't want to break the scope) may have to try

Vanitas: thanks, to be honest I just really like how the Mausers look with the bare metal, hammers & ejectors, I can always re blue I guess, my approach is always a mix of accurate, idealised, what I can make & what I can afford :lol

I put some wooden grips on the Denix & got round to sanding down the nubbin thing (technical term)

probably done as much I can for now.

I'm starting to feel a bit cursed with Scope Rings :lol

Got some more today, top comes off these but I think the base is too high this time :facepalm

In fairness they don't look like the picture from ebay (the blue background one)

think he sent me different rings, not worth sending back to the States though

oh well back to looking, I've only seen a couple of right looking ones & they're £30 with shipping, I'm guessing that might be a bit steep,

I'll keep looking (can see I'm going to end up with lots of wrong scope rings)

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

Oh man that sucks on the rings... bogus. I'd at least ask for a discount or partial refund for getting the wrong thing.

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

I've contacted the seller but not heard anything back about the scope rings

I'm back searching again,

I got a grill today, think it's the CE 12 fin version but it'll do for now,

thought it would just slot right on but looks like I'll need to sand the Denix to get it to fit flush,

had a note from Royal Mail telling me I've got custom charges to pay, guessing that's my weaver scope

starting to realise why I put off attempting this build for so long :lol

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

I got another Scope for this today, it's a weaver K3.1

it's 10.5 long compared to 9.3/4 for the other one

to my eye it's closer to the GK Compac look, though obviously there are still lots of differences

one thing I notice is that the blued steel tube is a lot lighter than the painted black one I have almost a grey in some lights

I guess I could always paint it or try to re-blue if it bothers me but I'll probably just leave as is

just need to get the right scope rings now ...... & the flash hider etc. :lol

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

Scope Rings Galore :lol

Ok please let at least one of these sets be right, got a bit of a job lot with 4 sets of weaver rings ( so that's 6 sets I've bought now :lol)

they all look like the right style to me (but then I've been wrong twice already)

each set is slightly different in terms of design, colour etc

pictures of the 3 together are just to show this style along with the previous 2 I'd got

I'm not buying any more now

this GK is driving me nuts :facepalm

Re: Han Solo DL-44 blaster builds: ESB Bespin, Hoth & ANH Hero

last shot middle is what I used...

The high ones MIGHT be more screen accurate, but look stupid sitting so high...

You can see the crease in the movie, just barely which leads me to believe than medium or high rise is what they used to film... but again... they look horrible with the scope sitting so high.

I went with the low rise middle of your last pic.
