Scrap-built spaceship

Engine

Good to hear Snow Builder and Metal wood.
I hope to reach some state of finished this year.

First the more accessible backend of the engine, the giant thrusters. :)
It doesnt need to stand anymore, now i can fill in the missing keys and cap off the holes.

For the last rings of keys i saved the "half size" ones.

All keys and the last two domes are in place!
She now measures a final length,195cm tip to dome.

Fire-up all engines!

Gotta LOVE the thrusters on this thing! Like strapping a V8 to a skateboard! Warp factor... ??!!!

Great work! Love the originality and design.

Thanks fellas :$

@ metal wood and Ruddigger, I am affraid to disappoint when i tell you i'm not planning to paint anything..
I tried to explain before in post #19 this is an experiment to build with "spaceship" coloured scrap.

Scrappies like these for example, to me have the semantics of spaceshipparts due to their shapes and colour,
and make me fantasise about what they could be on the ship.

I am tempted from time tot time though, knowing it would pop like mad.
But for now it will to be a "90'sPC" plasticgrey ship.

opposite arm

The idea for the next part is to have a smaller arm, opposite to the big bay, to make like disproportionate claws.

This dustbuster utensil has the right size, and i like you can peek inside like the big counterpart.

Placing a few leds.
And on the table prepping the lit parts.
100_3182.JPG

The elbow comes from a coffeemaker and the orange detail is the same colour used elswhere.
Leds held in place by an alu strip, lighting a few fibers and the blue gloom inside.
Trying to glue it all cleanly.

Dressing up.

So now it has two disproportionate arms!

side-panels

Its time to get around to these side panels. Scrapped from a hp desktop and oldschool monitor, i,ve been saving them for a long time.
The most tinkering was needed in the hardest to reach spot ofcourse. I took good care when glueing so it can reenforce the structure.

A bit crude, but i love the patern on these things.

Adding details and seams. Trying to make a transition from the fibers to the vents/ windows.

Port side.

Then mirror the whole routine. First the fight against lightleaks.
Since nothing on this build really fits..

Starboard.

And thats it for parts i had planned out. From now on its all freestyle with the scrap i have got left.
I've got a few ideas though. :p

I think the most important thing about the scrach building is,
bring your project to the finish line.

Congrats, you've done a great job!

More pics please!

panels top

Just a few steps to the finish-line.
After completing this report, i'll try to take a few decent pictures.

Areas yet to cover:
The in-sides, awaiting a last construction feature.
The underside, A few fibers still, and close it.

And the top of the panels, where i started with tightening up.

Then greeblies from a calculator, a scrapped astromech and wire insulation. f_3235.JPG

An interesting bit fits nicely.
Starting of the pointy theme i have i mind for the next area; the in-sides.
f_3244.JPG

The plan for the in-sides is to hold cantilevered "feeler" antennas alongside the ship.
I just found the perfect item for this: aluminium knitting needles!

Cheers!
building along..

That is pretty frikken awesome. Love your use of materials and creativity. Primer actually does help me a lot in my builds. It helps bring about a coherent vision of many disparate parts.
