Iron Man Triangle Arc Reactor - Portable, rechargeable

Pannaus Props

It's been quite a few time since I've wanted to make an Arc Reactor, but even though the first one was very hard and time consuming to do, I went on to think about the New element Arc Reactor from Iron Man 2.

That's also because I want it to sit behind the chest piece of the Iron Man Mark Vi armor (if I ever do it ahhahah).

So I went on to make some templates based on this image from the movie:

And these were the parts cut

At first, I thought about using 3 AA batteries with their holder, but this implied making a 3.8 cm thick reactor! Something I really didn't want to do. I wanted to be as portable and slim as it could.

Then a very nice idea struck me and I sacrified the battery of my phone to give it a try!
This allowed me to save about 1.2 cm getting down to this:

Instead of using Nthousand smd leds, I decided to go with one 1w led and the very nice irradiating system of the flash lights and that brought me to this:

I then went to Auchan and get some cheap transparent blue folders to make the colored filter and cut a circle out of some semi-translucent white acrylic 2.5 mm:

I then went on to make the details of the very upper part of the reactor:

I made the beveled part of the metal using some putty:

The parts where molded and then cold cast.

And here you can see the inside part where the battery and the custom-battery holder sit:

:D

That is amazing, I just watched the iron man movies for the first time a couple days ago they were sweet!

Thanks guys, I cut some 5mm acrylics circles, then glued them together and filled the spots that needed to.
Then molded and cold cast to get a nice realistic metallic look :D

That's a really nice RT there! Not sure about the only 1 LED though, because it seems to make the light too concentrated in the middle of the arc. Otherwise it looks amazing. The details on the face looks spot-on to the screen grab. Very nice!!

Yep. but if you look at the pics, usually the center area is white, and while the around area gets more blueish.
That's what I was looking for ;)
