Lighting the Shuttle Tydirium

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has any success in lighting the engines of Steve Neisen's Shuttle Tydirium. I really want that nice even glow without any hot spots. I was thinking some sort of EL lighting but I've not worked with that product before... any thoughts?

While EL is nice and even, it does not last. It gets dim over time. LEDs are still your best bet in terms of ease of installation, cost, and longevity. The trick is diffusing them to get an even glow without hot spots. You might consider using LED strip. It's like a tape with lots of LEDs stuck to it.
