Hannibal TV Series..

I don't know... I don't really see this guy as Hannibal Lecter. Plus, I'm not seeing how they can drag out the story of Lecter and Graham into a series.

Well, from the novel, and from the film adaptations Manhunter and Red Dragon, Graham consulted Lector on some cases where he wasn't able to get a clear understanding on the killer he was profiling (this makes some sense, as the novel was written when the concept of profiling serial killers was still in its infancy). I don't see that happening in every episode, but I think it'd only work if they follow Lector more than Graham (kinda like how they have such a setup with Dexter). We do know that Lector may have killed a lot more victims than it was discovered, so we may get to see a few who fall into the area that the FBI know of.

Hannibal Lector is one of the worst horror / crazy guy i have seen in a movie. Never understood why so many people love this dude. Really now..ranked as one of the best horror guys? I find the logo of Mr. Bubbles bath soap more scary than him. plus he is so boring to listen to..like someone just shoot him now, please.

Everyone to their own, so i hope you guys enjoy it and get what you want out of it.

This show looks great. I think it's running for a finite amount of episodes, so that should nip a lot of the problems that US drama has in the bud.

The backstory behind Lector/Graham is one of the most interesting things about the Hannibal myth. Will's description of it in Manhunter is really evocative. Shame they muffed it up in the Red Dragon movie.

Mikkelson seems like an odd choice for Hannibal, but then again, this gives me more faith than if they'd gone for someone obvious, as he obviously has something. I'd have been tempted to suggest Eddie Marsan if he could play posh.

I agree that the description of it in Manhunter was pretty good. I feel the opposite of your opinion in Red Dragon (the fact we see in one scene how trustworthy Lector made himself appear to be towards Will, but it also shows how Will manage to stop Lector and how much damaged Lector caused Will both physically and mentally, thus leading to his fear of being near Lector once again later on).

Anyone watch tonight? I thought it was pretty good. No one will replace Anthony Hopkins in my opinion, but it's going to be interesting to see how Hannibal progresses in this series. The use of Aria Da Capo in the opening Hannibal scene was a very nice touch.

I believe it's going to be an on-going series. The characters are all based from Red Dragon, but set in modern day so they can do a lot more.

Oh jeez. An ongoing series is a BAD idea. They should take a tip from the BBC and do a single season limited to 13 episodes or something. Tell a contained story, one and done. You want to do spinoffs after that, fine. But tell a coherent bloody story instead of just stretching things out for the sake of stretching them out.

I watched the first episode and like it a lot so far. Not sure how this will pan out as a full series or have more than one season, but I will definitely be tuning in.

I thought it was interesting, but I was surprised they had Hannibal "active" so soon in the series. I felt like they were insinuating so much without being obvious. I wish they would have made it a bit more mysterious, have him put Will through his paces like a cat playing with a mouse. After watching the show, I felt that the Phone call Hannibal made could have served 2 different purposes. It could have served to satiate Hannibal's hunger for chaos , or to possibly have someone Kill Will, who he feels is a threat already. When Hannibal decided to help the girl near the very end and hold her wound to keep from bleeding out, felt like he was basically satisfied with the outcome and had enough. Will wasn't dead, so he stayed with the girl intentionally to appear as caring.

I enjoyed it. Went in a little hesitant but was surprised how well it all came across. It might not be a mini-series but I do believe this will be a finite series, a few seasons maybe to lead into the Red Dragon era.

Fuller's said that looking at the timeline they've laid out Season 4 is Red Dragon. I'd expect a couple seasons of Hannibal being his consultant or whatever, then a season where Hannibal is caught, then Red Dragon, then a season of leading up to Silence without actually featuring any Silence characters unless the rights get worked out.

Fuller said it's only going to be five 13 episode seasons. That shouldn't be too extreme, at least not as much as say 22 episode seasons.

That would make sense, and a retelling of Red Dragon with the same characters could work. That'd probably be the final season just given Graham and Lectors situations by the end of the book.

Watched the first episode last night and REALLY liked it! I only read "Hannibal" and thought it was pretty terrible, but I have liked almost all of the movies and while this certainly isn't Hopkins' Hannibal, I do like him very much and I actually like that they don't, for one minute, try to create any mystery regarding who or what Hannibal is. We all know already and dragging us through that would just be painful and annoying. How long is it going to take Will to come to the conclusion that suddenly, in every case they deal with, there is a cannibal?

I like that too. They are just jumping right in and getting right to what makes it interesting, psychoanalysis and murder.

I like Mass Mikkelsen in the role. It's like someone crossed Casino Royale with Silence of the Lambs. Hannibal LectChiffre.

That's EXTREMELY good news, if it's true. I'm a huge fan of the shorter season series, as it keeps the storylines more focused, and I'd love to see Red Dragon done like this.

Let's just see if the series can make it through 5 seasons...
