MMPR Power Rangers Black Ranger WIP

Just thought I would share my first "scratch build"

Started with a Pep file from the 405th and I just ran with it...

This method is one that I have seen Volpin use many times, so thanks to him, I have a bit of direction here.

My client sent me an old scrap helmet he had that didn't fit him for reference and to reuse the mouth area.

That's so cool. Looking great- Thanks for showing the step by step images.... Some of us are completely clueless. Can't wait to see more....
Good Luck!

Can I ask what you used to define the edges of the mastodon's "nose" or I guess "trunk" would be more appropriate?

Are those just precut styrene strips?

Well, I'm jealous of your skills. Great work.

I wish I could cut curves in styrene as well as you did on those tusks. Everything is just so crisp, even at this stage of the build.

Can't wait to see it progress.

Is this the tv version or are you going movie? Great job by the way you can tell your really putting a lot of work into it.

Thanks everyone! To be totally honest, I am really basing a log off of the original Pepakura model. The reference pictures I have found show the helmet to be a pretty "soft" sculpt without a ton of clean likes on it. I am trying to make this thing as cool and as nice as I can. I know it's looking like I am running though this build but I am trying to be as well put together as I can. Trying to apply everything I have learned about building so far into this one sculpt.

The only thing I would say so far, is that I think the trunk has less of a ridge running up the middle. It is slightly flatter. You have the right look in the mouth. Which, in my opinion is the hardest part of the mmpr helmets.

Did some more work.

I lathed the eyeballs from a resin blank I made by filling a toilet paper tube and just threw it on my lathe. Glued them in with some bondo and made some eyelids from styrene.
