The Walking Dead: Rick Grimes Sheriff Uniform (Season 1)

Here's a pic from my debut as "S1 Rick" at Armageddon Pop Culture Expo October 2013:

armageddon2013.jpg

Still to find a decent watch, .357 & holster (mine is .38 specific) and the aviators were necessary due to the glare of the day, but otherwise I'm happy with the result.
This worked out well for me to wrangle in, as it was cousin Joshua's first convention-troop as a Jawa. Got myself photographed with the zombies.com crew who were promoting season 4 TWD, though not sure where those pics went.... ...disappeared like Carl perhaps?

Kudos to HakSawJak for putting this tutorial together

Your costume looks so amazing! I had been thinking that if I'd cosplay a TWD character it'd be Daryl, but you've got me seriously tempted to do Rick now. Darn you! :p

I figured I should finally stop being lazy and post on here giving thanks for the great tips and advice on the costume stuffs. I managed to get mine together after a couple months (boots and a hat are hard to find in my sizes XD).

Here's a few pics I managed to get from some events!

The Uniform Shirt and Pants

You would think that these items are a little harder to come by considering the fact that it is illegal to impersonate a police officer. I guess there is a loop hole for those pretending to be a TV police officer. Or at least that's what QuarterMaster Uniforms is thinking!! You can order the shirt and pants right off of their website. Bear in mind that these are uniforms so they run fitted and true to size. My pants arrived and let's just say, I have some extra incentive to drop a couple of pounds!

Quartermaster sells the exact LawPro shirt used in the show. It's a two toned 100% polyester shirt and the color is Tan/Brown. Sizes are based on neck size. Medium is 15 - 15 1/2. Large is 16 - 16 ½. Price is afforable at $20.99 (Plus sizes extra).

The pants require a two step process. They don't make the pants stock as brown with a tan stripe. So you will have to purchase the brown pants (length alteration included!) and then add on the pants striping. The pants are $19.99 and the striping is $7.99.

I've already addressed the patches and badge in earlier posts. The last thing you need to complete the uniform shirt (aside from the optional zombie blood) would be the name tag reading GRIMES. Bear in mind that Quartermaster will print the name EXACTLY how you type it. So make sure you type the name in ALL CAPS to be screen accurate. Go with GRIMES not Grimes or grimes. You can pick up the name tag for $5.99.

Here are several shots of how my uniform shirt and pants turned out:

The link for the pants definately work, but the link for the stripe doesn't. Do you know any other way to get the stripe on the pants? if so, how?

Just call them up and they will do it for you. I had the same issue but once I talked to them it was easy to have done.

UPDATED: Not trying to hijack thread, just want to share information I learn as I try my own build
This is my chocolate Powder River by Stetson. It has a 4'' brim and 4 5/8'' crown, just like the Stetson Roper. Cost about $130 new.
First, I took the standard band off. It was pretty easy. Didn't touch the thread underneath though.

Next, I got a 31'', combat length gold acorn cord from here:
http://www.cavhooah.com/cav-shop/st...id-gold-senior-commissioned-officer-1094.html

The cord was about 3'' too long.. I yanked one of the acorns off and cut the cord to the desired length. Make sure to leave 7/8'' extra length to fold the cord and put back in the acorn. That's the way it stays in there because the acorns are hollow. The center of the front of the acorns are actually the folded cord.

P.S. This is the new quartermaster link for the gold cords.. Not sure what the length of these are. That's why I didn't get them.

Now, the sides of my hat are curved a little more than Rick's appears in the show. To re-shape the side curves, you simply need some steam.
I boiled some water in a pot and placed some aluminium foil on top with a hole for steam to come through. Hold the hat upside down over the steam for a little while and slowly bend the hat on a flat surface, like a table. Test and repeat until it's where you want it.

Also, I found info on the size of the official, licensed replica star badge. It's about 2.8 inches high x 3.02 inches wide.
http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/156a/?srp=2

I'm guessing this is intended to be the badge that goes on the uniform as opposed to the hat?
Either way, I don't want to spend so much, when it doesn't have Andrew Lincoln's REAL signature haha

It appears that the accuracy has gone up in the lower priced versions on Ebay. Most are about 2.95 inches both ways. I grabbed this one:

Just waiting for it to come and I'll probably do HakSawJak's magnet method :)

Amazing Build Haksaw thanks to you you helped me put together my rick grimes sheriff build with out your detailed list i would of been stuck

Hi,

Can anyone confirm the screen accuracy of the texshoemaker gun package please?

Are texshoemaker the official prop maker for the show? (they say ... "This is an Original Tex Shoemaker and Sons Inc Designed Walking Dead Zombie Holster as seen on the Hit TV show."

http://www.texshoemaker.com/THE-WALKING-DEAD-ZOMBIE-PACKAGE-WDP.htm

See large image here: http://www.texshoemaker.com/images/002.jpg

Has Rick's gun package changed between seasons?

What is with the brass items poking through the leather near the buckle?

On the topic of screen accuracy - the texshoemaker is all silver metal - is that right no brass (except the brass I mentioned near buckle)?

Thanks you.

P.S. Haksaw you are my role model. That group photo with Hershel will provide warm happy memories for years to come.
I love how you go all cowboy and own the moment.
: )

lots of great info but I'm struggling to find US kit in the UK but I'm persistent. Sadly the link on here for the gold collar pins no longer exists, does anyone know what the real ones were gold collar pin.png

Good find Dan. I paid about $11.90 for the same pair on amazon.com a few wekks ago. Have you been lucky in finding all other items?

Jason I've really enjoyed your posts on building your own Rick Grimes Sherrif uniform. After reading about your experiences I have been trawling the internet in search of some kit. I have had some success in ebay and amazon, buying many of the items from the US. I live in England and have found the USPS a little expensive at times. I am happy with my uniform, the badges and insignia look so much better than the pictures show. I'm almost complete now, the only item I haven't bought (yet) is the Jacket. I'll post some photos of the uniform soon, once my gold campaign cords have arrived.

Cheers thanks I just searched mens ugg jacket and there it was, nothing mentioned about Rick grimes or walking dead so was just lucky I guess !!

It is expensive but if you want it accurate means most stuff has to come from states, I bought a bunch of stuff from Galls/QMUniforms, managed to get an airsoft plastic colt so was able to use at MCM London. Got the zombie killer pants, couple shirts, belt fasteners plus the gold acorns from QMU, Belt got of ebay, there was a sale on just before xmas so saved money but paid more in shipping than cost of order, plus import for the qm stuff.Been watching a couple of radios correct model but not wanting to go overboard so not bought http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222094168113?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT .With the weather we have am trying to find the brown jacket he has at a decent price as found it but bit expensive link here https://www.blauer.com/b-dry-3-season-jacket-6120.html
