Re: Darth Malgus Costume WIP
Lol
Ill see all you guys there!
The next major step was what to do about the mask/make-up/prosthetic issue?
I really wanted this to be a costume that I didn't need to shave my head or have to spend 2 hours in make-up for.
My biggest problem with making my own fitted mask is that I just dont have anyone locally that can do a life cast of me!!! This has been a problem for years and tbh its really holding me back making my own masks for myself. I make plenty of lifecasts for other people but don't have one of my own!
It is such a specialised and tricky procedure that its just not something that you can show someone to do without them practising at least a dozen times first. And the materials are not cheap!!
Anyhoo, after much deliberating I finally decided to go for the CFX mask option.
I went for the "Geezer the old Man" as the base for the mask. After chatting with the guys at CFX we decided on this one as it has all the wrinkles in the right places.
Heavy modifications were needed though. This included trimming the ear lobes, adding a much heavier brow, gnarly veins and the requisite Sith paint job.
This is what it looked like at the start.
And after the basic modifications. I think you'll agree CFX did a fantastic job, and were very helpful and accommodating throughout. I cannot recommend them more highly.
Although this was starting to look the part I just wasn't convinced he looked Sithly enough and felt his features needed to be more extreme.
I decided to take a gamble and add some more modifications of my own.
1. Firstly the brow just didn't look angry enough so I started by adding a considerable amount to that.
2. Next I added the rim of the neck cowl which, when painted black will blend as one.
3. I felt the veins weren't as pronounced as I hoped so I added some more depth to them.
4. The blast damaged left cheek, a result of that direct grenade hit!
5. The skin paint job was far too subtle, I gave the whole thing a lighter wash of whites and blues to produce a paler hue. Then I went back in and airbrushed all the tiny veins around the eyes and also where the breather mask parts joins the head. Extra shadowing around the eyes was also added. The darker eye colour will help blend the seam with my own eyes with a touch of make-up. Lots more charring has been added since I took this pic.
With all the mods done I just couldnt resist roughly cobbling all the bits I had together to get an idea of where I was going.
Its getting there anyway!
Btw that's the unfinished breather mask!
