For WonderCon this year, I upgraded my revolver slightly.
It was just a painted squirtgun before, and is nice for costuming, since it weighs so little.
I started by replacing the barrel with a shorter one. (The appropriate 4 & 3/4" instead of the previous 5 & 1/2")
Then, I cut of the plastic 'grips'.
This was a bit of work....
This allowed me to then use real single action revolver grips on my prop. On ebay I found a nice set of rattlesnakes to put on the real grips- then I just had to adjust the contours of the plastic gun to match.
I Also glued in some plastic to give it a bit more structure and locate the screw hole.
Here's how it came out:
Since the prop spends most of the time in the holster, the famous rattlesnake grips are by far the most important part.
At least that was my reasoning!
And here is a shot from WonderCon, with Rudigger's fantastic Man with No Name costume:
It's nice to spend the day as a cowboy every once in a while!
