Im guessing the base was a Steve Madden type shoe / boot.

Great thought. I'd agree with that, I just quickly googled it and the first two results I came up with were these:

I'm sure with a bit of searching you could find something even closer.

Here's a few pairs of shoes I've been looking at:

Kenneth Cole Double Clip (My favorite so far)

And a pair of Prada's I was watching on eBay.

I think the Prada's would have worked well. The auction ended up finishing at $142.00. A little too rich for me. Coincidently they have the correct sole needed for Zam Wesell boots.

OK,
here is the side by side comparrison between Wash's shoes on Firefly and the ones sold at target. It seems the only major difference is a custom sculpted sole, which even seems to follow the original lines of the shoe pretty well.

Great find. Might have to get myself a pair later on in the week.

Started work on some custom buckles for my Brown coat which are coming along nicely. Other than that not made much progress due to the holiday season.

I found a link to a good lead on a base for the suspenders.

Lawrence Ordinance

I know the picture doesn't show much but they difinitely do have the right thin-into-thick-shoulders shape and the right color. I ordered a pair and I'll post when I get them in as to what the full set looks like and what needs to be altered.

The email I got said 8 bucks for shipping, so 15+8=23 bucks.

Before you guys run out and get them let me play guinea pig and see what the final product looks like and how much modding they need. For some more experienced seamsters or costumers it might be easier to make them from scratch. you never know.

Here's the pair I'm patterning mine off of

Not the WWII suspenders they used for the TV show, but they're constructed exactly the same(minus the modifications they made, obviously). Even has the right hardware.

Angelus - where did you find those?

Friend of mine owns a surplus store. He got a few pair in. I only snagged one, and now he's out. Kind of wish now I'd have got all of them.

Concerning Wash's boots. I swear I've seen them somewhere. And I mean to
say actual production footwear. Let me look around again.
