BUILD THREAD:

http://www.therpf.com/f24/gears-war-3-judgement-onyx-guard-build-165365/

I created this costume by utilizing references provided to me by EPIC Games. All of the armor pieces have been created by heatshaping EVA foam and coating with plastidip and Is accurate to the point that I even recreasted the correct boot tread. The helmet was created through the pepakura process (jakritt file) with cardstock, fiberglass, rondo, bondo, and spot putty. There are LED's wired into the chest, back, Lancer chainsaw gun, and EL wire on the lenses.

The main difficulty in creating this costume is the fact that the characters in Gear if War look like prehistoric gorillias on steroids. It was a huge challenge to create armor that was scaled to me, yet still had the bulky, layer look of COG armor. Throw on top of that the fact that I have never used foam, EL wire, LED's, or pepakura and I picked quite a bit of new skills in the process.

I'm particularly proud of the accuracy of the costume. Every place there is supposed to be a screw, I cast a screw head and glued it on. I recreated details like the helmet lacing that you would only know about if you had the files from EPIC. It was unbeliveably awesome when I met the senior concept artist at EPIC who designed this character and he said, "It's like I'm talking to my model!" Most of all though, I'm proud that I pushed myself past my comfort zone and learned so many new skills.

My main build thread at the top has most of the progress pics, and I'm going to continue updating that one as people have questions.

Here is an article that the Epic Community did on it. I was lucky enough to be invited to Epic Games to show it off to the staff when it was finished!
