Has Hasbro or Sideshow ever seen a real Sterling Stormtrooper rifle?!

I got an email about Sideshow Toys' new 12" Snowtrooper and the Stormtrooper rifle looks tiny, like they sized it off of a Hasbro Stormtrooper blaster toy. I've also noticed in the past, my nephew's Hasbro Stormtroopers, the newest ones, come with tiny Stormtrooper rifles. The newer Rebel troopers also have tiny blasters. It seems like they've never seen a real one or something. So are they using a toy Hasbro Stormtrooper blaster for reference or what? If I was going to pay $149.99 for a Snowtrooper figure, it better be as accurate as possible at that scale! They have the entire Lucasfilm archives at their disposal, so you would think they would have better reference. Anyone else notice this?

could they be basing it off the ILM95 casting or a basic MGC? Those things are tiny compared to a real Sterling.
