Re: Pepakura Proton Pack Build (Pic heavy)

hey according to the movies we're what all self-respecting, athletic bodied 18-year-olds want to sleep with :lol

I like you. Next time I'm on your side of the pond I'm buying the first round.

Re: Pepakura Proton Pack Build (Pic heavy)

Time for the injector tubes. After a trip to Home Depot and spending $9 I had this -

552331_10150978691613398_894066487_n.jpg

Cut the 1.5" PVC tubes down to 6.75"

528884_10150978691723398_458287178_n.jpg

Two PVC fittings and some bolts will make my anchors.

392898_10150978692043398_780067794_n.jpg

Lay tubes flat on table (Paying CLOSE attention to where we wrote "Bottom")

557646_10150978692133398_876577801_n.jpg

Add the bolt to the TOP. Fill with Industrial Grade hot glue. You know... The stuff that you need to get to like 200 degrees to melt. And once you place it, You will NEVER get it out? Yeah, that stuff.

292392_10150978692293398_933998026_n.jpg

Bolt... Goes... in the TOP. Arrow points to the... Wait a minute. :confused :facepalm :confused Sometimes I am amazed at how I do smart things only to moments later TOTALLY IGNORE said smart things and do something MONUMENTALLY stupid... Yay me. I'm a winner.

575556_10150978692583398_2093304645_n.jpg

After a hissy fit I moved to getting the bottoms of the tubes ready. I added some extra styrene so that I could thread in my brass hose barbs.

575740_10150978692398398_459872815_n.jpg

Filled the bottom of my anchors with more hot glue.

521902_10150978692858398_1593849294_n.jpg

Added my bottoms.

Top plate

555897_10150978693043398_1134963835_n.jpg

Fake welds. Start to get REALLY mad reading the word "Bottom" and the arrow... :confused

396946_10150978693138398_325653830_n.jpg

HEY TIME FOR PAINT!

First silver

521892_10150978693263398_1866566259_n.jpg

Then black and add hose barbs.

376925_10150978693408398_901909953_n.jpg

DONE!

I picked up an Exoray cast bumper for $35. I have made some of the pep ones and they come out pretty darned good, but for $35 this was too good a deal to pass up.

So here is the pack with all the labels and mounted to the Alice frame -

So I finally got to do this -

Re: Pepakura Proton Pack Build (Pic heavy)

I'm going to be honest. I came into this thread thinking "Pep? For a Pack? Really?"

You owned this. Seriously. Mind. Blown.

Awesome work, looks very good thus far. I can't wait to see how the thrower comes out!

Once again, awesome job!

Thank you! This is my first pep build. Is there something bad about building props with pep files? (noob question)

Re: Pepakura Proton Pack Build (Pic heavy)

Mental block on my part. ;) Don't mind me. Plus, I keep forgetting about the fiberglass reinforcement part.

Seriously, it looks awesome. Doesn't matter if it's pep or a fiberglass kit or a vacuform pull. It is a good, solid looking pack that you should be proud of.

I wasn't insulted! LOVE the compliments! I'm just new to the whole community here. I have been on GBfans for a year but it's a fairly focused group. This group is a lot larger and it can be a bit mind boggling the scope of stuff you all deal with. (I spent an hour looking at 5th Element props then hopped over to Iron Man builds) And you all have more experience with what works with pep and what does not. Just curious before I embark on another pep build. :)

Best advice that I can give: Use what works for YOU. If using Pep is giving you these results, then KEEP USING PEP!!! If you're more comfortable building out of wood and MDF, use that.

And so on and so forth.

Whoever tells you that you're "Doing it wrong" is, in fact, doing it wrong themselves. Keep on doing your thing. It's enjoying the journey and having an awesome final destination that matters!

And I, for one, am really enjoying this journey!

Good to hear! One thing I learned from this is the Joy of Styrene. I'm also hoping that the wife will get a job in California so we can move back. THEN! Then I can have a garage, a drill press, band saw and a belt sander. If that happens I want to play with MDF.

Re: Pepakura Proton Pack Build (Pic heavy)

Thrower time!

I rondoed the thrower (I LOVE rondo... SO MUCH!) the one on the right is a reject that I got too thin. I did later re-enforce it and use it for a spare parts build.

529109_10151010598918398_1487821185_n.jpg

I did get it too thin where the vents go. No problem! More rondo and we are good to go.

Thrower time PART II -

I got the Heavy Props full sound and light kit and needed a clip mount for my bar graph. To the scrap styrene pile!

That bolt looks like it is touching the board. It's not... But it is close.

I wanted the Cyclotron lights to have that flat white that the movie ones had. So I sanded my lenses and then used some of the old pill bottle lids that come with my dogs epilepsy meds and popped a LED clip into it.

Wow. INCREDIBLE build.
And you just showed me how I should mount my Crix power cell lights. Thanks for that!

Few things give me more pleasure that watching scratch build threads. The perfectionist in me wants to find flaws. But the fan in me is only seeing Fantastic!!! Congratulations sir!
