Can any one give me any info on the captain america shield. dimensions, material ect. i would prefer a metal but something light-weight. thanx for your time. Cheers GM

These are what I gathered from other rpf post : the movie version is 26 inches in diameter. Going out from the center, your rings are at 5 inch, 7 5/8 inch and 10 3/8 inch...There is a side pic of the shield to determine the curve. I made a circle out of 0.08inch aluminum and I can stand on it, but it won't take form.

Re: captain america's shield-waiting on a quote

Yesterday i contacted a company in my general area who does custom machining. I'm waiting on a quote for a shield in titanium. I will post the quote as i receive it...GM

You're looking at a very high quote for titanium, not to mention it's just a little impractical. Why not just get one of the spun aluminum ones from eBay that everyone else uses?

well a quote is free and would satisfy my curiousity. Spun aluminum is $180.00 on ebay. titanium is all around superior as well. Quality is priceless...GM

Titanium would be pricey, but light and less thick. The ebay one's are aluminum and 1/8 inch thick (0.125). The ebay aluminum shields are beautiful! ***Please, do not take this as a knock on the ebay shields*** but, you could get away with 0.08 thickness and then you could use an inner layer to attach the leather and buckles. The worry about too thin a shield is the etched rings. I wonder if you could tune thinner material, hmmm

The comic book shield has a 30 inch diameter. I think the 30 inch is nicer for display but for cosplay 26 inch is better (Unless you are super soldier sized).

i used a 24 inch pepakura file, the lightweight fiberglass is good for walking around at cons. other options are stripping the paint off a Flexible Flyer steel sled, only $30 on amazon. on a side note, titanium is 2x harder than steel, so itd be harder to work with, plus its not 'silver' like steel is, its more of a 'tan steel' color so your color will already be off.

more notes, the screen used size is 25" with a 3" bow, verified in the profiles in history auction. and yes the comic is 30" with a 5" bow.
