1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi Gang,

The Arch: Part II

She fits and there is NO need to change out the lower platforms on the main body - the nose panels and platforms still have to change but that's minimal!

The arch meets up directly with the nav chair platform - PERFECT!

Once I glue all the arch layer together, the last thing is to determine where the bottom is and cut it so it will rest on the platform. I might make a few modifications here and there. BUT! CRISIS AVERTED!

Honestly, not a day goes by when I don't wake up and check the updates in this thread, it's so inspiring!
Glad to hear the good news about the arch :) You must be absolutely stoked!

Fantastic news!

Yes it is! I'm so relieved the lower platforms dont need moding - that would have been a HUGE step backward. Now I have to focus on the best way to make the arch work. The best part, we know have a template for the square tube pipe for when we fabricate the skin frame!

Hi D,

Thanks so much! I appreciate the kind words indeed. As I mentioned above, I am thrilled the way everything aligned the way it did. Surprisingly, the arch I cut by hand wasn't too far off the laser cut version. That was a nice pat on the back...

It has been absolutely brutal outside with the 100+ degree weather. But there is ALWAYS something going on - Jessie will be cutting some new files, we're trying like mad to secure those seats (anybody in the UK want to help me and Wavey with this acquisition PLEASE PM me), Daniel and Philip will be working more electronics, we're going to do a test air brushing on one of the wall art panels, we have lots of molds, and a HUGE side project we're just aching to get started, etc etc etc...

Lots going on! :)

Great news! The suspense was killing me...

You and me both, my friend. As you know, with any project there are several directions / tasks that need to be done in order to reach the finish line. The next big hurdle will be incorporating the new door frame into the arch. I have a pretty good idea how it will all play out but it is tough when there is no actual blueprint to follow. Gotta wing it! ;)

As with a lot of those props/sets/models our members are re-creating on the RPF:) I wish I'd had a blueprint for the Space Station also, but everything is built using the eye and not precise measurements, nor detailed blueprints;) But that's not stopping us from creating and building!

I've tossed my hands in the air in frustration many many times but not once did I think to stop... I've taken several steps backward, but its those steps forward that keeps us going. Are we crazy attempting to recreate those same feelings and experiences when we first saw these amazing models, props, effects, etc on screen? I prefer the word passionate.

We all can't be crazy... besides, our mothers had us tested! ;)

Hi Gang,

Well... now that we have pipe bender it only made sense to buy dies to roll the .75" square tubing!

Congrats Jessie!

Yeah... that's my fear. Most of us are just a bunch bench warming yahoos. She's going to get too big for her britches and start demanding much more than just a "Thanks, toots". ;) JOKE!

But we love her! :)

Hi Gang,

I've been doing some sketches of the upcoming metal frame that will be used for the exterior skin. It might just work out that we will not need the actual wooden arches at all. The plan was to not only use the wood arch but also use it as a template for the steel .75" tube frame that would wrap around the exterior of the wood arch. I still needed the arch laser cut either way. But, in reality I dont think we'll need the wood arch if we integrate mounting brackets into the skin frame helping keep all the main panels in place and minimizing the amount stress placed on the panels.

Just a little update to keep you guys in the know. :)

Thank you! And SK isn't joking, I slave over a hot laser cutter and all I get is "Thanks, toots" if even that...

;)

Well, I for one (and, perhaps on behalf of all the regular visitors to this thread) would like to thank you for all your hard work, Jessie. Your contributions to this project have allowed it to grow and expand in ways that I'm sure even SK himself hadn't anticipated, and we're all the beneficiaries. So from all of us who enjoy every update that includes some of your labor, thank you.

... toots.

:D

Hi Gang,

Check it out... Wavey was able to identify this mystery greeblie! It's a Vickers VC10 water tank handle. Wavey told me he "JUST" missed the auction. It sold for .99 cents... UGH!

At least we now know what it is! We'll find another! :)

Hi Gang,

MAN... it is HOT outside. The heat and humidity have really put a damper on forward movement. But I'm trying! :)

So I jumped back to the Nav Chair. I had to rip 4 1/4" strips to add to the side rails. This allowed enough clearance for the center PVC pipe to sit comfortably without hitting the back of the seat pad

And then of course... lots of filler and sanding
