1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Hi Gang,

HAPPY NEW YEAR! The Final Update of 2014! Enjoy!

After a quick run to the home improvement store I picked enough bolts to mount the new lower light bars on Chewie's side
20141231_150721_zpseed0bb37.jpg

I actually had to pull this light bar apart and remove 1/16" material - it wasn't lining up against the back panel... ugh...
20141231_150730_zps4560f4b0.jpg

From the back - perfect fit!

20141231_152518_zps055a6fec.jpg

Then it was time to attempt the impossible... Can I take apart the nose panel without having to redo ALL the pin striping????? I removed the lower 1x4
20141231_155452_zpseccf6627.jpg

Taped off the pin striping so they wouldn't be damaged, Secured a cut guide into place. The guide worked perfectly!

Lower piece sitting in place - so far so good
20141231_162314_zpsc81f6c0e.jpg

I made the cut but it wasn't pretty... at ALL (NO PICS) My hands were SO cold I flubbed a few areas.

I have to remove another 1/16th". Better to have too much material than too little. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can pull this off. If need be, I'll pin stripe again.

That's it for 2014! WHEW... What a year! I want to thank each and everyone out there who has taken the time to read, comment and contribute to the build! THANK YOU! You guys/gals are the reason we are doing this project. We all appreciate your support and hope to carry on into 2015 and beyond!

Happy New Year, Gang! Celebrate with family and friends! But most important... Be Safe! We'll See Ya Next Year! :D

Hi Gang,

UPDATES! The new nose panels are built but need to be sanded, painted and yes... ugh... re-pinstriped...

The first thing I did was build a new panel out of the old nose panel

Panel is finished minus new paint and pin stripes

20150101_121555_zps3b10df07.jpg

UGH... Lots of filler needed here
20150101_121601_zps4c9dc76e.jpg

I evened out the panel...
20150101_121640_zps74c43603.jpg

20150101_121611_zpsd3fc8803.jpg

I then started putting panels together to ensure they all fit back together
20150101_123706_zps9249afc6.jpg

So far... so good (fingers crossed)

20150101_123816_zpsee0c99b1.jpg

I then jumped over the Chewie's side... just then it began to sprinkle...

Just as before... built the frame to fit
20150101_164039_zps6efcc177.jpg

But didn't have time to finish
20150101_164044_zps63bac071.jpg

Making sure panels still align

More to Follow!

Do you have to resize your pics? Or does the RPF do it for you? What is the maximum pixel size? Sorry for asking all these questions in your thread, I promise I will lay off.

That I dont know... I just select the link that places the entire image into the thread. I'm going to guess TheRPF has a size limit... but then again, I have seen some images extend WAY to the right! I don't think there is any limit to pixel / file size as well as the original image is sitting in your photo album, not on the TheRPF.

I hope this helps. I'm sure someone can help out! :)

The shelf and new light bars look fantastic, great bit of carpentry. Imagine flicking on the light switch, when that time comes.

Thank you, my friend! Yeah... I've been imagining that monent for a LONG time! The first flip of the switch when everything powers up... can you see it? I see it! ;)

Happy New Year, sofa, starkiller and all the rest! You keep me coming back for more! Very entertaining to see how things are progressing!

Hey T,

Happy New Year to your and yours! You and every other viewer/fan are why we are doing this project! :) Still lots more to follow!

Happy New Year to You Guys!!

I've not been helpful at all for the built but I enjoyed so much following it!!

Regards,

Alberto

Hi A,

Happy New Year to you! You've been a huge supporter of the build! That's more than enough! Hopefully we'll have the entire ship finished one for everybody to see and experience with all senses!

SK, that thing is way too large for your garage. You really need to move it into my hanger here in Fort Worth. You'd have much more elbow room to work on it. And it would look very at home next to the speeders. Just let me know. :D

Hi Gang,

Some early morning updates! Well... I wound up removing all the pin stripes but there is a outline remaining I can use as a guide... So I have that going for me

Added filler to the braid holes

20150102_163658_zpsbc3edef2.jpg

Sanded smooth - I know... not the most exciting pictures in the world
20150103_091132_zps3b0d697e.jpg

After the pin stripes have been removed - you can see the outline. But will they remain with a light coat of paint?

20150103_091557_zps4cccb655.jpg

The worst areas were the edges of the panel so when I applied the paint I made sure I didn't put on too much. Here you can still see the outline. Should be easy to pin stripe
20150103_095642_zpsf86f2faa.jpg

Also prepped and paint this lower panel that sits under the shelf

Note the difference between the old dark grey and the black paint - what a difference!

Say No More! ;)

Hi Gang,

UPDATES! Well... it was time to do the unthinkable... take everything apart so I could begin painting those pesky bottom panels. Along with all the painting, I was able to get some pin striping done along with greeblie work and some touch up work on the console

Adding some much needed filler
20150103_121357_zps4d420b2a.jpg

The pin striping was really simple! I just followed the outline from the previous job
20150103_123450_zps936f820b.jpg

20150103_124744_zpsd4aab2e1.jpg

But just to be sure I added the greeblies... whew... everything fit
20150103_130023_zps55c58487.jpg

I was looking through some old production pics from ESB and noticed that this greeblie was either silver or white around the edges
20150103_130700_zps72c9419d.jpg

This panel is finished!

Done
20150104_084450_zpsd4868810.jpg

The cockpit is slowly being taken apart. Now we can get to some more painting! But first... filler
20150104_110636_zps0f3598c6.jpg

While the filler dries I moved onto the Chewie's nose panel
20150104_110642_zpsdf61fdbc.jpg

I then added a quick layer of black to the sides and front of the console. It was in bad shape and showing her age

I NEED my daily dose of this breathtaking thread just as much as my cup of coffee in the morning...LOVE you guys for what you´re doing ;):thumbsup

Hi Gang,

Not much of an update but an update...

With all the new changes and additions there are now 12 new panels (inc shelves) to transport! UGH
20150104_133511_zpsb15d38b1.jpg

Painting some new greeblies for the front nose

Chewie nose panel - Done!
20150104_165603_zpsadbe9047.jpg

I still have to paint the shelves then spray Satin clear on all the new painted panels then I think we move to either lighting or the new platform???

Stay Tuned!

Hey S,

That was my very first thought! UH OH... The large shelves I built created a situation where the lower panels MUST now be separate from the others. Even the new light bars "should" be separated. Good news, the panels dont have any greeblies or pin striping so they can be transported with a simple blanket. Bad news, more space will be required for transport in general.

So... I ask myself whether I build a new/second travel shelf AND do I create something to transport/store the shelves? Those are my main concerns right now (that and finishing the dang thing). Just as I ended my post "...UGH..."

Hi Gang,

Sorry for no updates... the weather has been in the single digits for the past several days... TOO COLD! I did some work on a few greeblies but nothing major. The cold spell finally broke and temps are on the climb! :)

Wowzers, SK! That's the kind of weather we have in Minnesnowta right now!

Say, what happened to the space you were using at Mindgear Labs?

So awesome!
Will I be able to get some shots in her at the Star Wars Celebration? I will be in my Han ESB costume. Just need to find a Wookie.

Hi H,

OH YEAH! It was really cold for about a week or so! I can tolerate cold weather, but when it gets into the single digits... NAH... it can wait! ;)

We still use MGL from time to time - Jessie puts the laser cutter on overtime. But they needed the extra space for educational purposes so it was back to the garage! :) We're still looking for a new home.
