SoCal Prop Party -- The Recap

Well, we wrapped about two hours ago, some us walking out under our own power, some of us being carried out on stretchers.

All right, well -- I'm joking here, but we all had a great time.

The turn out was fantastic, and the prop displays were great. Just about everyone showed up, and I think virtually all of us saw both old friends as well as new faces.

I was very pleased that some folks traveled great distances to make it -- bbabich made it safely in from Arizona, Animetronic came down from Bakersfield, Kim&Cris traveled from one end of the greater LA area to the other, cenobyte made it up from San Diego, and MM (nomad as he is) made it for a brief respite before traveling on.

Food was great, and we were served by none other than Chewbacca (well -- he could have PLAYED Chewbacca, as our waiter was 7'1" tall.).

The room was a tad tight, but hey -- that's because we had such a great turn out. I threw out some trivia questions which I never really followed up on, so I'll post the answers in a later post on this thread.

The props were fantastic, but I'll let the photos do the talking in this area. A favorite though was R2D2 Guys R2, which served as a magnet drawing in curious onlookers (and as one or two of us noted, some hot moms.) into our little soiree.

For all of you that attend, post up your thoughts and comments, and your PICS.

Damn, I wish I could have attended. A show (theater play) opened today and there was no way I could do it. Glad to see such a great turn out.

I had a blast everyone. I don't have many pics (too busy trying to deflect my drool off of everyone's stuff), but here's me with my new pal/crush. I think we're cute together.

I hope my wife (or R2D2 Guy) doesn't mind.

Contrary to what the pics might have you believe, I was actually there - sorry I had to cut out early, but I had to go meet Steve Wang about an emergency build of an item for a TV pilot he's shooting... prop duty called ;) (and I barely made it, thanks to frikkin' SoCal traffic... now I remember why I usually just stay at home).

At any rate it was great to see/meet everyone - hopefully next time I can stay longer...

Yup, had a blast. Good to see everyone again. I forgot how nice "Most" of you guys and gals are. :p

The sad part about this whole thing... I now have to build an R2. On the way out as Mike was diving R2 to his car. This little girl saw him and just lost her mind.

So it off to get me a working R2. Thanks Mike. No Ill be broke for another year.

I never realized just how short Brandon is.

This made us very happy. In fact I think we nailed the colors and materials when we made Kim's costume.

The party was a blast. I am so glad that I was able to attend. Some pictures with my camera came out blurry due to low lighting, so here are the highlights.

Animetronic looks like he's about to shoot his load in the group pic :p

Yeah, holding cameras at crotch height when the photo comes out low contrast is a surefire way to look pornographic. I do have a big lens though.

Too bad it wasnt intentional, I'd have been showing it off all over the internet.

Brass, how quickly you forget.. Oh well, our brief moment in the sun was memorable to ME. :)

here's the pics, along with customary munson commentary:

PHArchivists stuff, including his "Wife Beater" deluxe set. Composed of a half drunk jug o' beer, and a big war club for the actual hittin'. NICE.
props1_b.jpg

The Bryan Babbich Table O' Goodness ™ featuring some really awesome paper props, and a handful of Indy goodies.
props2_b.jpg

More Babbich stuff, including new Minorty Report stuff.
props3_b.jpg

Kim And Chris goodies. There's the multipass. WOOHOO. Chris and I got in an argument over who inspired who to make which multipass. I still say it was he that inspired me, but he claims otherwise. i think we can simply agree to disagree. :)
props4_b.jpg

A truly spectacular array of custom machined and hardware sabers. Mind blowin stuff.
props5_b.jpg

Darth Brass: At least twice as handsome as he is intimidating. Even with 2 guns.
matt_b.jpg

Ceno with his killer Ghostbusters pack. Randy in the background with indigestion.

SMOKIN' HOT moms, pose for a photo with R2. When I told them it was going "on the website", they got a little nervous. But who cares. They were hot. R2 knows how to pull them in.

D43rdRonin, or whateverthehell his name is, is the dude on the right wearing grey. Chattin' up a storm with PHArchivist. Cute couple. To Tim's right is Quartz's girlfriend, downing a martini in a failed effort to dull the pain of being dragged to yet ANOTHER one of these beastly events. Kim and ArmyScout in the BG hitting up the buffet.
people_b.jpg

Speaking of cute couples, here's Quartz and his special lady friend. One word: DAYUM.
dana_b.jpg

Somehow Kim (and chris) mostly eluded my camera's ever capturing eye, and I'm sad to say she is not featured in any of my photos. Sorry boys. Maybe next time.

All in all though, a really great event. Some really stellar stuff on display, and a great bunch of folks. Great to see all the familiar faces again, and wondeful to meet some new folks. I hope I didn't leave a bad impression.

Actually, I take that back. it wouldn't really bother me :) As long as I left an impression.

See some of you in a few weeks at the NorCal get together.

That brassy firearm is a custom build by Darth Tyran that he calls "Rosey". He said he had a different inspiration for it but it also looked like it could fit into Firefly. He said that the base gun was the same as one of Jaynes guns from Firefly.

Yeah, the LeMat was the base for Jayne's main sidearm in the series, and I had never seen the gun used for any other "inspiration," so I was curious. It's quite a nice custom.
