I received my hoverboard today. After reading this thread for months, I was anticipating the worst, but after checking it out, I think it looks pretty good. The only thing that I really dislike about it is the foot pad. It just looks wrong. The placement, the strap, the material. It's this big green thing that ruins the aesthetics of the board.
The color matching of the magnet parts and board, even if not identical, are really close. The board is very vibrant, even in the shade. Comparing the magnet parts to the ones I bought from MrSinistar, the Mattel ones appear 10-15(?) percent bigger. It's not a large enough difference to notice, using eyes and memory alone.
Even though they're not accurate, I like the recessed channels for the pink velcro. I had no problems with the sticker application (of the one I opened), but there was a black scuff mark on the side of the board. I was able to remove it. The Mattel logos have small "R"'s overlapping the white of the circle and bubbles of the board. I tried gliding it on the carpet, it didn't seem to move any different or further than a hardcover book would. I also tried using the display stand that came with it. It's clever, but it feels easily breakable.
I placed my order on Monday, and both boards arrived with the pre-order mini-boards. Copyright info is written on both magnets of the mini-board.
I bought them knowing I was going to tear them down and build them up, and I didn't pre-order them, so I'm not disappointed. If the foot pad was different, I'd be pretty happy with the board as it arrived, and keep the changes minor and superficial.
