polystyrene vs acrylic?

hey guys :)

looking to make a visor, via heatforming.

now my local hardware store only has acrylic that is 6 mm thick and up. while they have polystyrol that is 2 mm and up.
also the polystrene is cheaper

so far i have only used acrylic for stuff like this, but only smaller pieces (dragonball scouter)

would polystyrene work the same way?

im intending to form it and then put a tinted window foil on it, the polystyrene would be clear

All of my experience with polystyrene has been tepid at best. it tends to be kinda weak, and prone to cracking/tearing. If the part is never under any stress, it might be ok. Acrylic's heavier, and a bit more fussy, but overall more durable. It will still crack, but not as easily. Hope that helps
