Blade Runner 30th Anniversary

With it being the 30th anniversary of Blade Runner, and all the talk about Ridley making a prequel/sequel, I thought there would be at least talk of a screening or something somewhere.

Nothing.

I have never seen my favorite movie on the big screen.

What are the chances something is in the works?

I would think it would get re-released. I hope so anyway. I remember the first time I saw it on the big screen. Pretty empty and I could not get why. I was just happy to see Ford in another film at the time.

It was just on the big screen for the Final Cut, so I kinda doubt it'll be out again unfortunately (and yes it was in a beautiful theater just 45 minutes from me, and no I didn't get to see it. Feh. Theater even serves my favorite beer).

Wow, im very envious, "If only i could see what you will see with your eyes",again, if you know what i mean.

Where i am in Oz, there are a couple of indie theatres that specialise in cult and classics and at least one of them puts it on their calender yearly and we have a Moonlight Cinema thing with movies in the park etc and it gets a run there every couple of years as well.
Do you have anything like this close to you?, by close i mean 6hr round trip or less by car if you have to.

There is a theatre in town that shows all sorts of obscure movies and art films. Everything you don't see at the big chains. They even host a film festival.
I check them weekly to see if the ever show it. I've even emailed them about it several times.
When the Final Cut was released, I think it was in theatres only in NY and LA.

I'm hoping they have a screening at the Mad Monster Party. Fingers crossed!

The Final Cut was screened in Concord, NH, so I assume it made it past NY and LA! (not that Concord doesn't deserve to be grouped with such illustrious cities :lol)

Yeah, the Final Cut was screened in NYC before the blu-rays were released. It was pretty awesome watching it on the big screen.

Yeah, seeing the final cut on the big screen was awesome. But also, if you check around your area for historic old movie theaters, you might find they have a classic summer movies series, and some times they take requests.

We have tried to organize a couple of screenings over the past couple of years and have been told that Blade Runner is an embargoed title (ie: not available for rental).

Conjecture is that there was an agreement in place to release the Final Cut, but after that, it went back into the vault. Complicating matters is the fact that the Final Cut exists as a digital file only and that's the only version that would be shown during some sort of anniversary event.

That probably won't stop us from trying to do something BR related this summer though.........

At a recent screening at the Egyptian (American Cinematheque), one of the theater staff was announcing upcoming shows and said that some are Blu-ray, but the projection equipment upscales it to "full chip." So evidently it's a possibility, at least in some theaters. FWIW.

How about a 30th Anniversary Blu-ray release... with three more previously undiscovered cuts of the film? ;) :cool

At least Ridley put all versions on the Final Cut blu-ray. I don't think there would be so much hatred for the changes Lucas made if all versions of Star Wars were on blu-ray. I bet they would even watch the altered versions more often. I watch the narrated version of Blade Runner occasionally. Sometimes the workprint version. Its when you take choice away that people get angry. (Also Ridley didn't make Zhora shoot first in his Final Cut, lol)

If they don't do anything for this 30th anniversary, I bet something will pop up after Prometheus is finished when he really starts working on Blade Runner again.

Wish I was in CA for this:

I don't recall the voice-over being a problem until people got wind that it was foistered upon Scott and then it became "that god awful voice-over". Never had a problem with it myself, seems fitting, and it was I grew up on.

Sometimes I think the theatrical cut can be a better cut for the most part. When I found out Scott was re-instating the cocoon scene in Alien for his 'directors cut' I decided that wasn't the version I preferred, and the reason it originally wasn't included was still valid (besides just seeming a bit 'off')

Amazon has a pre-order listing for Blade Runner 30th Anniversary Collector's Edition.

Doesn't look like it has anything new in it. The Ultimate Collector's Edition packaged in the briefcase still seems the way to go.

As Roy dies on the roof, Deckard's voiceover says "Nooooo!"
