Thanks Dave,
I don't suppose u have 3d project files of flatbed and cab1?

Don't forget that 25 years ago when The Abyss was made there were no such thing as 3D project files! All analog 2D drawings. As you've seen in earlier posts I am in the process of making a (very) accurate computer model of Cab (and will be doing Flatbed someday as well) but since I'm planning to produce a kit from it I'm afraid it won't be "open source".

Ahhhhh, I see, well, I have recently started learning to use cinema 4d, and had a bash at Cab1, but I'm just learning the software. Also my brother is working on a physical model of both Cab1 and Flatbed with some help from me. So DaveG I wish you every success with your project, I suppose I should start saving now for your kit :) as long as it doesn't take as long as a blu ray release of the movie :lol

Whoa! where are these helmet pics from? I assume this is the full size functional helmet?

Hello all. My name is Dallam Oliver-Lee. My grandfather-in-law, Scott Millard, the owner of Western Space and Marine passed away on August 14, 2014. I'm having to help inventorying the business, organizing, taking pictures, etc.

I discovered several items, drawings, pictures, and movie props. It will take me some time to sort through everything at his shop.

Original door from The Abyss:

Thank you so much. I got to meet James Cameron's brother, Mike Cameron, at the funeral service today. I amazed on how much work my grandfather-in-law did. He also worked on the Titanic movie.

Pictures of the final version of the helmet for The Abyss. Helmets and diving packs were made for The Abyss by Western Space and Marine.

Those are great photos of the helmet. I worked with Mike a bit when he was developing a heads up display for camera operators. I was at Lightstorm one day and saw an Abyss helmet in Jim's office. I confess I snuck in when no one was looking and tried it on. It was heavy! In fact, that looks like it could be the same one. Jim's was displayed in a very similar way. You're going to make a lot of people very happy with these photos.

I found some more rare items in one of my grandfather-in-law's filing cabinets.

Original diver backpack and helmet drawings:

My condolences for your loss. I hope your grandfather-in-law and the rest of the people who worked on that project realized how much their work was appreciated by movie fans. The "Abyss" dive helmet has always been my single favorite movie prop/costume item. In fact, I wrote a blog post about it a few months ago:

As you might imagine, I'm eating these photos and other drawings up. Thanks so much for sharing them.

Scott has behind the scenes photos and video that's never been seen by the public. It's gonna take awhile to find it. He's got tons of videos of all his work from the 1970's to current day.

I'm going to have to put the Abyss script in a protective bag, because the pages are starting to fall apart from the metal bind.

You will see in some scenes in the movie the "WSM" logo on the divepacks and helmets and in other scenes it looks like the logos have been covered up.
