Rapunzel (and Flynn)...the everlasting WIP. ( re-making bodice! )

Re: Rapunzel (and Flynn) WIP!:: pg 13... I made a pet!

An idea for attaching him, how how about a kilt pin? Run it between right front leg and left rear leg, paint the exposed part of the pin with a fingernail polish that matches your bodice the best so you don't have an annoying silvery gleam there and it should look really good. I've used kilt pins on some of the chain maille jewelry I make for attaching them. they are much sturdier than safety pins and using the fingernail polish protects the metal much better so it doesn't corrode. Also if done right Pascal won't flop around or sag.

thanks for the suggestion!

i actually just plan on using some adhesive velcro. haha!! stick some tiny circles on my shoulder and on his feet and bam!

in other news, here's a random shot of some of my new extensions for my park style wig!

that's only 2 of 6, excluding the base wig as well. i have a feeling it's gonna be pretty awesome!!

at first i FREAKED OUT when i opened them cause they're TOTALLY an ash blonde instead of golden...but against the purples in my costume, i think the colour looks AMAZING and very close to the parks wig! they photograph more golden, so i'm pretty sure i'm sticking with them. worse comes to worse and i don't like the colour, i'll order a bunch more in a more golden tone and remake it and sell this one. :)

Please post pics of you at the event. I'd love to see pics of the kids reactions when they see you. I've found that kids make some of the most adorable faces when they see or meet characters live and up close.

Definitely! I've been practicing my singing and princess movements just for the occasion so hopefully I'll get a good response! LOL I'm so excited to wear it around kids... on Halloween it was already late and not many kids are in the casino lobby anyways...and the other night was downtown bar-zone... so no kids there either. :( I'm really, REALLY excited to wear it around people who will appreciate it for an entirely different reason other than I made it. Haha!

Though funny story... my boyfriend showed one of his friends at work some pictures of us... his friend showed his daughter and she asked if I was real. He said yes, but I'm only Rapunzel when I'm in costume. She asked if I had a mean mom. LOL

On the update front... finished the left side... working on the right at the moment...

it's extremely wrinkly and lumpy looking here from being stored in a ball on my dresser when not being worked on and crunched in between the embroidery hoop and having not been ironed yet... ugh. I'm so excited to iron it, it's kinda weird. >_>

Re: Rapunzel (and Flynn) WIP!:: pg 13... Embroidery pattern of doom.

Lovely work... do you ever try to imagine what she might have been feeling working on her own embroidery, stuck up in that tower with nothing to do but work on her dress? (and brush her hair) *hehe*

Reading that just gave me nightmares and joy of equal proportions. With all that time, imagine if she had embroidered the WHOLE SKIRT- ALL OVER?!?! So glad it's just the edges...I don't think I'd survive. However, Rapunzel seems like quite the optimist and seems to have enjoyed any time spent on her hobbies so though it's a sad situation, I'm sure she did it with pride and happiness! Now if it had been the original storyboard which was much darker... I think I'd probably get just as depressed working on mine as she probably would have been. Thank goodness for Disney sugar-ing it up!

And thanks! It's so strange. I do like how it looks, but at the same time it's so messy. Even if it's intentional because hers is... it's so weird to work so hard on something and try your best to make it looks messy and still neat! @_@

Re: Rapunzel (and Flynn) WIP!:: pg 13... Embroidery pattern of doom.

They really did make it a cheerful prison for her, didn't they? She didn't even know her mother was not her mother...

You're doing a great job in balancing neat with stylistically messy! :D

Re: Rapunzel (and Flynn) WIP!:: pg 13... Embroidery pattern of doom.

Okay, so...sadly, the Expo was kind of a bust. I mean, it was tons of fun dressing up as Rapunzel ( always is, she's my favourite costume! ) and I was super happy to use it to help promote a friends business but it was mostly parents there and oodles of babies. Like, baby-babies. There were a handful of kids, but then most were boys. There were a few little girls there though... and most of them stared and smiled and then hid and refused to come over. MY HEART! IT BREAKS!

There was one little girl though who yelled " RAPUNZEL! " and ran to me with open arms for a hug. She was SO CUTE! She said my hair was pretty and asked where Flynn Rider was ( no doubt she had been charmed by that rogue! ). I told her he had to stay at the castle to practice sword fighting with Maximus. She apparently liked this answer and thought it was quite funny that he had to practice with a horse. She asked to see Pascal and I had to tell her he was pretending to be a statue because he was very shy since he's used to being in the tower with just me but she held him for a picture. Then she invited me into the jump n bounce. Sadly, I had to decline since my hair would have gotten messy so I told her to have extra amounts of fun for me too which she excitedly agreed to.

Another young girl told her mom she thought I was just in a costume but she wasn't sure anymore 'cause I had the real hair so I must be real.

And then there were actually a countless amount of adults who were almost more happy to see me than kids. I think some of them asked me about the wig just to try to cover up the fact that they felt a bit of Disney magic. I see your smiles! You can't hide it from me!

Also, only a few pictures and none of them have been forwarded to me yet. @_@

So here are a couple shots of my skirt in its current stage that show some more detail in the embroidery...that rare balance between messy handmade and still kind of clean and pretty!

This skirt is like a violet chameleon. It changes colours so drastically depending on lighting and flash. Oh well. I guess Rapunzel's has enough variance between all of the images, dolls and scenes too. There are a couple designs I'm going to pull apart and re-do to make more symmetrical, but overall I think it's coming along quite well!

For reference...

Now that I got into a groove for the embroidery, I want to finish it SO BAD. I feel like the impact it has is just incredible and makes a huge difference...but alas... I need to take some time off from it to build me a half-suit of armor before May 24.

Time to go from princess to knight! But more updates to follow after that while I re-work a great deal of it for a summer photoshoot with an incredible photographer! Oh, did I mention that yet? Yes! A photog friend on facebook who has an incredible artistic eye for pictures and post editing offered to do a shoot! And she already bought 40 floating lanterns for it! AND SHE HAS A CANOE ( which, for those of you who haven't seen the movie, means a shoot that looks something like this:

)!

Words can't express my excitement!

Thanks for all of your kind words throughout the thread everyone! It truly is an inspiration to continue improving one of my favourite costumes to the best of my ability!

That came out so good! And the photoshoot sounds wonderful! I can't wait to see the results!

It really looks fabulous, and so accurate to the animation embroidery.

I am SOOO excited about the photoshoot!!! TOO COOL!

By Expo, do you mean Wizard world? If so, I'm so disappooint that I didn't see you. I was there all weekend in various costumes (and even when I was not in costume, people assumed I was and asked for pics!)

Ah well, maybe next time. Great work overall!

Thanks everyone!

Talisen, unfortunately no. :( I wanted to go to WW so bad but we dismissed it so early since the costuming crowd isn't usually very big there ( or so I had heard ) and then when we heard reports of the opposite on the first day and decided we did want to go on Sunday it was too late for advance tickets and we weren't going to pay $40 for one day. @_@

I went to a Mom 2 Mom Family Expo to help advertise for a friends business. :3 I'll be at Anime North and Fan Expo though. Though not in Rapunzel... Erza Scarlet and Daenerys Targaryen, respectively ( I think...so far ).

Ok, so I've been going over the wig segment, What did you use for the tubes? I found a wig on eBay I'm thinking of getting yours turned out so good I'm jealous. LOL mine will be for a 5 year old so.. I'm really trying to figure it out. Might be have the size of yours. I have some nude spandex already. (i started making gymnastic leotards last year for my little one) Do you think that would work? What did you use to stuff it? To make the tinny brads in the large braid did you add hair? I know I haven't finished cinderella and prince charming yet but who doesn't have multiple projects going on :)

That embroidery looks very good. You match the movie almost perfectly. Almost. Although we strive for 100%, we almost never get there. But you came closest.
