Jurassic Park Horizon (etc) T-REX builds - let's see 'em!

If you want a more detailed t-Rex and even bigger I suggest the Rebor King TRex. All you need to do is grind of the scales and sculpt new ones so it matches the rest of the body. It is also based of the Stan Winston original sculpt http://stores.dansdinosaurs.com/tyrannosaurus-king-t-rex-by-rebor/

Sorry, IM, but the Rebor T-Rex is not 'based' on the Stan Winston T-Rex ... in fact it reads: "Inspired by the cinematic "movie monster" versions of the tyrant king". Also 1/35th scale (Dimensions: 13" L x 7" H) is smaller than the 1/16th scale of the Horizon kit (27" L x 11" H). In 'scale' size - the larger the number, the smaller the item. So, 1/87 (HO scale) is smaller than 1/72 (Johnny Lightning car size, and Galileo Hernandez T-Rex group http://www.geenemodels.com/tyrannosaurus-1-72-resin-kit-set/); 1/72 is smaller then 1/35; 1/35 is smaller than 1/24; 1/24 is smaller than 1/16; 1/16 is smaller than 1/4 scale ... and so on.

Anyone interested in the Rebor T-Rex, can find them right now on eBay (where you can find nearly everything!), as they are sold out on his site at this time.http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odk..."+by+Rebor.TRS0&_nkw=T-Rex"+by+Rebor&_sacat=0

I still prefer the Stan Winston Studios T-Rex design, as seen in the Horizon JP model kit. And it is so easy to build and reposition. ;)

A quote from the man who sculped the original.
Mike Trcic also sculpted a 1/16th scale Tyrannosaurus that was to be used for Phil’s go-motion. Mike says “I had to sculpt the (1/16th scale) model in a neutral position so that Phil (Tippett) could put an armature inside it and animate it, so the legs were splayed out. When Horizon toys released the model kits of the dinosaurs from the original molds, they didn’t fix it, so it looked ridiculous!”

Here's mine, and his friend the Brachiosaur

That's where a modeler can take the initiative and alter a model to make it more correct.;)

I just ordered one from a seller in Thailand http://www.ebay.com/itm/Movie-Juras...588?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25a89eba2c . It should be here in a week or so. I'll let you know what I think of the kit when it gets here.

As seen here, it appears to be the same model ... it is, in fact, a recast. It says it is 11-inches tall. The original Horizon kit was 1/16th scale, and this looks to be the same. Again, when I get it, I'll report this info here.;)

Okay, Iceman ... the recast T-Rex has finally arrived - took about 15 days to get here ... southwestern Ohio ... and I will say the recast is a little bit smaller than the original. The detail is there. I'm holding it against my finished Horizon to give a visual idea as to its actual size. The Vinyl used feels like the same Vinyl used in the original Horizon kits.

The seller has a listed price of $15.99, but will take $13.00 in the 'Make Offer'. Combine that with $13.00 shipping, and you get this for a total of $26.00. Not bad if you would like to build a Vinyl kit, while waiting for an actual Horizon ... which are few and far between.

here's my recast build ,I sure remember the Horizon version being a lot biggert rex 003.jpg the original horizon ad says 28 inches, this kit measures 22

This is what I did with my Horizon Recast, I have the orginal as well, but since I was too afraid to mod it, I got the recast. It's definitly smaller, i will most likely repaint my original horizon rex to not bull rex colors. It can be seen in the last pic.

Apologies for the bump. I did a search and this appears to be the most recent thread on this subject.

For those of you that have this kit (or even the recasts), I've seen a lot of mention about how poseable this kit is. But how poseable are we talking? Could I achieve something similar to the scene at the end when the banner falls as seen here:

I know the Papo toy somewhat resembles this and sideshow had they're statue, but I've always wanted a large representation of this scene. Could I pull this off with the Horizon kit?

Thanks in advance!

I'd say if you wanted to do that you would have to sculpt alot of tail, bend the legs, cut out and sculpt a new neck......This is the recast version

I had to cut and sculpt a new neck, sculpt around the leg, and fill gaps on the above model.

Hi guys.

I just started the recast kit yesterday. took about 16 days to get it to where I live. This is my second model ever to build. I've done a 1:400 Titanic before.
Here are some pics of the T Rex so far. I've done the cutting and sanding so the pieces fit together. just need to do the legs and arms and then glue everything together. thinking about re positioning the legs.
I will keep you all posted about the progress. :)
would it be okay the fill up the legs with hobby clay play doh? just to give 'm some weight and balance?

nice work! did you use an airbrush or dry brushed it? I just finished cutting and putting it all together.
any tips for painting this guy? I already did the inside of the mouth using pinks, grays and browns for the gums and whites and ivory for the teeth. Then gave it a glossy finish to simulate the saliva.

Mine was destroyed years ago but I still have my raptor and brachiosaurus build-ups. One great thing about these kits apart from the size and accuracy was the brilliant painting instructions--they allowed builders to recreate the paint schemes from the movies very accurately just with ordinary acrylic paint and brushes.
