Archer's goggles [FINISHED]

unbreakable

New Member
I just started creating the night vision goggles that Archer from Splinter Cell Conviction wears. Eventually I'm going to get the whole costume put together, but the goggles will be the most difficult part. This gear will be used for a video that I will be creating in the future (I'm an effects artist/compositing student).

This is the first prop that I have ever created and didn't really know where to start. I posted a thread here a week or so ago asking for advice and received no input. So I decided to sculpt it out with clay and then make a mold of it and make the final product out of resin or something. What would be the best way to make a mold of the hardened clay and what is the best material to make a cast of the finished product?

Here are some pics of the process so far:

Here is what I'm going for:

This is a night vision head strap that I got off eBay. I will modify it to remove the bracket and the front part of the chin strap.

Update #1:

Since I last posted I have successfully created the silicone mold and cast the final resin piece. Next step will be drilling out the lens holes and painting it.

Update #2:

The goggles are coming along great. Though I haven't had much time to work on them between working full time and going to school full time for my B.A.S., it's slowly coming. The goggles themselves are painted (though considering repainting a more metallic look), drilled out, and the head gear is all set to have the modifications sewn together. I'm just trying to decide on some last tweaks but I think it should look good. LEDs are on the way as well.

My real progress has been on the rest of the outfit. I've been sniping eBay the past month or two finding the best deals on realistic (and similar) "Archer" gear. All of the stuff I have so far is straight out of Gall's police equipment and other tactical gear. I'm really proud of the brace that you see me wearing, which looks almost identical to what the character Archer wears. It was pretty difficult to find and I ended up having to get it from a seller in China. Right now I'm just looking for a nice Balaclava as well as some type of spandex vest perhaps or a tight fitting vest. Then I'll use under armor/ a rash guard under that.

I'd really like to top it all off with a gas blowback airsoft pistol but those things aren't cheap. Especially this FN Five Seven which is the trademark gun from the game. I've been watching on eBay for similar airsoft pistols but they always jump up to around the $70 range for a used one.

So here's the pics:

Update 3:

Goggles and costume are done. Here's an overall shot I just took. I'll get close ups of the goggles tomorrow.

Re: Archer's googles [WIP]

Who knew? So that is what a google is. Googles/goggles...who really cares?! Looks like you are off to a great start:thumbsup

Re: Archer's goggles [WIP]

I have to agree about the goggles being the hardest part on this. I just played the game recently and wanted to do Archer's costume. The idea of having to sculpt the goggles from scratch are actually what scared me off from doing it. Too many projects already and not enough time etc.

I look forward to seeing how this turns out with great interest.

Re: Archer's goggles [WIP]

For maximum effect, I'd do the "lenses" out of tinted, clear resin. Hobby Lobby or Michael's will have the EasyCast or ClearCast resin and the jewelry molds + tint. A few LEDs and it would look spot on. (Though you couldnt see of them of course)

Love your progress! Keep it up!

Re: Archer's goggles [WIP]

Update #3 is up with finished costume and goggles. I may do the shoulders later but this is good for Halloween.

@W4RH0US3:

I'd really like to get the Tokio Marui FN Five-Seven airsoft pistol, which is the same trademark gun from the game. I'm just looking for good deals on one.
