Looking great so far - I have to say certain elements of your process seem remarkably familiar!

Looks like you've got access to some very fantastic tools - laser cutter and proper prototyping foam as well. Keep up the great work

Thanks for all your comments

trooper1m-
This is going really great so far, cant wait for more progress.................. Hang on, Irn Bru? are you in scotland?

I sure am. Just moved back from my flat in Glasgow to my mums in Falkirk for the summer

Volpin-

Yeah could you tell?... iv basically followed your process letter by letter and just changed small bits as i went lol... Hope This is ok :)

And yeah im at University studying Product Design so i have access to some modeling supplies and tools... I try to avoid the laser cutter as much as possible because everyone(including me) uses it far far to much. I always find it amusing how that no matter our design brief... someone always manages to make a laser cut flat pack solution. drives me nuts lol

I guessed from the Irn Bru cans that you are in Scotland, so I'll respond with a traditional Scottish phrase of approval - "MON YERSEL BIG MAN!"

lmao... beautifully said. simply beautiful. in Scotland that would be replied with a simple. "you asking for a fight like?" no matter what the situation. lol

But cheers guys :lol much appreciated

Hey, cheers for all the comments :)

Sorry for not posting in a while, got to the point where i just needed to leave well alone or i would end up throwing the thing out my window.

The part on the visor where the angled top connects to the side piece i found extremely hard to get right and ended up taking about a week... im still not happy but i need to move forward

Pics to follow-

Drew up ribs of the curvature of the mouth on illustrator and then printed out and spray mounted to 1mm styrene

also filled the mouth opening that i had cut in the chin piece i had laser cut earlier... i decided it needed moving up slightly and a tad wider

This part has been worrying me for some time...The split line running across the dome.

i had a few ideas for this but eventually went with this one -

5787014840_ef0ec7f697_z.jpg

iwent to my local hoppy shop and purchased a length of extruded brass with this [ as its cross section. I had planned on using it firstly to scribe a line in the filler. i would then remove material and inset the brass piece into the helmet and smooth it in. however whilst scribing the first line i was happy with the finish i was getting so i just decided to use this as my split line... i used a junior hack saw and followed closely against the brass to create an extremely crisp line.

The brass was held in place with small beads of hot glue

I should have the chin sides made sometime this week and probably be finished in the next week or 2. The issue after that is making my silicon mold. I really dont want to make a mess of it and i think i require a vacuum chamber etc... which i dont have. i also need to make my ear pucks on a lathe... which i dont have. And this all costs money... which i dont have.
